And ditto on the copyright thing. (I usually rush out and buy a copy of the movie as soon as it's out on DVD to try to make amends -- I did that with "The Corporation" or "The End of Suburbia".)

16. like most persistent myths, this one has an element of truth.

any respectable myth gives its adherents just enough truth to hang on to.

for example, yes, there are a handful of people abuse welfare and unemployment insurance, so this myth persists. yet, vastly more people abuse corporate expense accounts and no one complains about waste and graft in the private sector....

there is simply no measure of perspective when it comes to terrorism. terrorist attacks do exist, and 9/11 brought this vividly to american soil. yet, terrorist attacks on american soil remain extraordinarily rare, and this has virtually nothing to do with the alledged increase in security since 9/11. the fact of the matter is that foreign attacks on american soil are exceedingly difficult to execute.

the result is that you remain many, many times more likely to die from a drunk driver than from a terrorist attack. yet, no one has called for an increase in security against drunk drivers.
