If you get a chance to see the FDR special on the History Channel
I can't recommend it highly enough. It covers him warts and all. From the disgust many of us have upon hearing of his treatment of African Americans and Japanese Americans to the undeniable courage and sacrifice represented by his 4th run and Yalta it is a remarkable portrait. The description of his marriage is quite surprising as well. Very worth seeing.
5. I keep meaning to read a really good biography of FDR,
sometime. This special reminded me to go do that soon. There were really neat things about him it in that I'd never focused on when reading about his life, like his convalescence at Warm Springs, and the role that that community played in shaping his future.
the Russian promise (which was fulfilled) to move their forces into Manchuria to defeat the Japanese once the war in Europe was over? therefore demonstrating that the atom bomb had FAR more to do with post war Soviet/US strategic goals than ending the war in the Pacific?
