Why don't Vietnam Vets focus their anger toward the assholes who sent them over there in the first place? Or is it just easier blaming everything some petite woman?

1. It's guilt.
The true, honest Vietnam Vets know that abuses occurred and that the war shouldn't have been fought. It's the ones that were committing those abuses and signed up to "kill me some gooks" that hate her.

4. I'm a vet (served during peacetime) and that's always been my opinion.
I had the honor to serve during peacetime in this country and I believe one of the major reasons I was able to serve during peacetime was BECAUSE of the efforts of people like Fonda (and John Kerry too).

I may not support their tactics, but I'll defend their results. They got the word back to the American People about what was going on in our name and helped end that war.

Fellow Vets, don't flame me. We all served our country honorably. The only ones more honorable aren't here to defend themselves.

Peace!

12. 15 months in country VN here
I agree with you. If it wasn't for the VN war protesters no telling how long we would have remained there, how many more lives would have been shattered how many more deaths to be mourned. When I came home in Oct. '70 it was a difficult time. The American people were waking up and ashamed of what they had allowed and many took it out on us. So, am I proud of Jane Fonda and John Kerry, you can bet your sweet ass on it.
Thanks BR for your courage and your service.

judging from the Fondapalooza of the past couple of weeks.

In the words of the immortal Church Lady, "We like ourselves, don't we?"

8. I do! I was proud of her stance then....
and I still love her. Nobody was more anti-war than us actual Vietnam veterans. She's a fab-you-lous actress, too.

Tell'em brother
That is precisely the point.

Outrageous times require outrageous actions, and she has paid dearly for her actions which helped to end decades of senseless bloodletting which had NO END IN SIGHT, until all these 'unreasonable' and 'irresponsible' people began doing 'outlandish' things.

What she did compared to B-52's dropping napalm on hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese is fucking nothing.

16. Ouch.
I wish you would sky-write that last line.

I wish Fonda would, she can afford to.

She's a tool, just like Hilary.

These little boys and their ovary-phobia. Works everytime to distract them from the fact that they are getting fucked every which way but loose by the people they put in power to protect them from the women they fear like this.

11. Because it's easier to hate little Janie
than to face the fact that hardcase, right-wing Commie-hater ideology, from both the right and the left, scarred their lives and killed their friends.

Little Janie and those like her shoulda kept their mouths shut so that 158 thousand names would be on that wall. It's all her fault.

15. It's like this
Jane Fonda has said in recent years that she has become a Christian. I believe she even made that statement in her recent Oprah interview.

And, in my experience at least, it is the fundie repukes that seem to have the most residual hatred toward her. For various reasons - many of which can be debunked by Snopes.com.

Of course, Scripture instructs fundis to forgive others.

Which gives me the perfect opportunity to ask fundie repukes why they cannot forgive Jane Fonda when God himself has.

I did that to a fundie who works for a church and has sent me Jane Fonda hate email for years. Shut 'em up quick.

17. You faked me out.
I thought it was going to be a tirade against Jane Fonda.

I have missed her as a talent in the movies, and as a voice in the public. She says that she's moving into her next act, her final one as a public personage. I was very sorry that we'd had to miss her for so long, that we were deprived of her talent and her intellect.

I never paid any attention to those who hated her, because I knew that it was easier to blame a woman who'd made a few judgement lapses that appeared in photographs than the politicians and businessmen whose deals and orders sent these men to be killed. I feel she's made more than enough apologies, and those who haven't found it in themselves to forgive her are riding on their own vanity, now. There are too many people to blame, and a high-profile young woman from Hollywood royalty is a great stand in for them.
