Is America on the verge of creating it's own "Iron Curtain"?
Using the pretext of stopping the flow of illegals or maybe Terrorists the first step will be closing the borders. Next step will be making sure they stay closed by building a wall. All the time assuring us it is to keep the bad guys out. Pretty soon it will be "I'm sorry but you can not travel now it isn't safe" and last but not least "No one enters or leaves the country without a very thourough background check and solid reason to travel. This is just extremely easy to visualize. I don't want a wall built around our country. I want new direction, new leadership, where we get along with the world not fear it....

1. It is possible
I think the emphasis will stay on people coming in, but i can see a situation where travelling abroad you run the risk of not being let back in.

But I don't think we will get there - I think we will get new leadership.

7. I think it's more to keep citizens inside the US
than to keep foreigners out.

It's possible the passport rule will be used to keep future draft-dodgers from leaving the country.

2. that was the first thing I thought
When I read about the bill proposing passport requirements to get back in the country from CA starting in 2008. If asked to show a passport getting out what could you say? I don't have one?

Then the shrub claimed he didn't know about the requirement and wants to use biometrics instead...that's worse.

It's really getting scary.

3. won't happen--they need the cheap housekeepers and gardeners
As we've seen here in CA, the GOP uses this to fluster the yahoos, but agriculture and a lot of the service industries depend on cheap, unregulated labor. That's like crack to them, and they won't give it up.
