Move America Forward's hilarious anti-Voinovich ad
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 10:02 AM by wicket
That didn't take them long, the right-wing Move America Forward is already targeting Senator Voinovich for delaying the Bolton nomination. Here is the text of the unintentionally hilarious ad:

Wife: Honey, were you watching C-SPAN today? Did you hear how disloyal Senator Voinovich was to Republicans and President Bush? Voinovich stood with the Democrats and refused to vote for John Bolton, the man President Bush has chosen to fight for the United States at the UN

Husband: No, I was streaming it on the Internet at the office, but from what I could tell, Senator Voinovich played hookey from the hearings?

Wife: Yeah that’s right. He’s missed most of the Bolton confirmation hearings, but then shows up at the last minute and stabs the President and Republicans right in the back.

Husband: That’s ridiculous – the United Nations needs reform, we need someone who will stand up for the United States and fight the UN’s corruption and anti-Americanism.

Wife: Shame on Senator Voinovich. After the Democrats smeared Condoleeza Rice for Secretary of State and Alberto Gonzales for Attorney General, how could Voinovich side with the Democrats in smearing John Bolton?

Husband: It seems like Senator Voinovich has become a traitor to the Republican Party.

Wife: Enough’s enough. I’m logging on to Move America Forward dot com to register my protest with Senator Voinovich’s office.

Husband: What was that site? Move America Forward dot com ?

Wife: Yep, Move America Forward dot com

2. I actually find it a little bit disturbing.
Look at all the violent imagery and words used in the text:

"the man President Bush has chosed to fight for the..."
"then shows up at the last minute and stabs the President and Republicans..."
"the United States and fight the UN’s corruption..."
And then they top it off with this...
"It seems like Senator Voinovich has become a traitor to the Republican Party." (They sure do like throwing around the word "traitor" a lot, don't they?)

While they're not advocating violence directly, they sure do appeal to the base humans who think that violence solves everything. Fits right in with Republicans today. And I'm sure they'll shed a single tear should harm come to Senator Voinovich by some "outraged" (and disturbed) individual.

5. Husband No, I was..
Husband: No, I was streaming it on the Internet at the office, using the company's bandwidth for personal shit. I also use the corporate email server as my personal email server. Eeverybody does it. It's really no big deal. Oh sure all of my projects are behind schedule, but I am going to "work from home" on Friday and get caught up.

6. If that ad's not a direct declaration of war
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 09:51 AM by Norquist Nemesis
:wow:

That ad is nothing short of disgusting and vile. It simultaneously attacks Voinovich and Democrats as traitors, provides visual rhetoric of killing the President and Republicans, and implies Bush is sending Bolton into battle (fight for the US).

But will Bush or Rove pick up the phone and stop it? Hah! Ain't gonna happen!

This shit needs to take the tone down a few notches! :grr:

8. Yeah, it's a stupid, chilling, ad designed for the slack-jawed
And it's out the NEXT DAY. While it may be a stupid response, it's sure as hell a rapid one.

15. You're impressed? I'm not.
Anyone with a jack in the back of their grey Wintel box can do such a "rapid response." It's another idiotic fundraiser gimmick.

16. I didn't say I was impressed
But it surely will separate a few fools from their money in favor of the Repukes. And as lame as this ad is, they can only get better than this dreck next time. It's good to laugh at their pitiful effort this time, but I always worry about down the road with these creeps.

19. I could excrete better dialogue than that
Everything about it sounds so . . . forced and talking-point extracted. Real people don't converse that way.

The UN is anti-American. Well, gee. I wonder . . . just WONDER, how that unfortunate eventuality came to pass (/sarcasm)

Fucking morans. Yeah, we're the bad guys because we smeared the most incompetent politician in history; one who lied her ever-loving ass off, insulted the intelligence of those who questioned her and is more or less responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths to protect her criminal husband and his band of corporo-fascist thugs.

Oh yeah, MAF, thanks for admitting you side with an advocate of torture. Why not just bring back concentration camps and debtors prisons?
