I've never met the Pope, but he called me Hellbound, Dangerous, and Evil
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 06:09 PM by Sandpiper
Hellbound - because I'm not Catholic

Dangerous - because I'm liberal

Evil - because I support gay people's struggle for equality.

Boy, are we off on the wrong foot.

1. Catholics do not believe you are hellbound because your are not
Catholic. You have them mixed up with Evangelicals.

I was raised Catholic and they've always taught that other good people "go to heaven too" whatever that means.

Personally, I believe heaven and hell are here.

4. I was raised Catholic too
and was taught just the opposite, that only baptized Catholics go to Heaven.

5. You were taught by Liberal Catholics, then
And Ratzinger has quite a few tart rebukes for such nonsense. He has made it clear that only Catholics will go to heaven, with a default clause for only the most extraordinary cases.

20. John Paul II made one of his papal pronouncements about Jews
going to Heaven. I'm going to look up what we believe because I'm not sure right now.

29. This is what I don't understand, Pope John Paul II and Ratzinger were ...
... close....why does it appear that their theologies were quite dissimilar? It doesn't make sense that JPII would try to mend fences between religion whereas Ratzinger seems to support an adversarial relationship, considering Ratzinger was the "keeper of the faith" or whatever!!!! I smell a rat. zinger.

6. According to the new pope, the ONLY true religion is
Catholicism - all other faiths are not "God/heaven" worthy! Heard that on the news and not only once, but several times on several different channels.

23. That's what comes from our belief that Jesus built his Church upon the
shoulders of Peter. I'm Catholic and though I know it's obnoxious, we do sort of think we have the inside track.

2. He'd have more sympathy for you...
...if you were a priest who was fond of little boys, or a bishop who shipped pedophiles from one parish to another. Someone like Bernard Law, for instance, who apparently is not evil or dangerous and has found a safe haven in the Vatican.

11. My post is tongue-in-cheek
Papal pronouncements mean about as much to me on a personal level as bozo the clown pronouncements.

I'm just thinking though, for a guy who never met me, he sure has called me a lot of names.

;-)

18. Don't feel bad. I don't think any religion will have me.
I guess I'll have to start my own church.

"The Church Of The Seven Day Weekend."

I can't remember where that came from.

George Carlin?
