Army Fitness Deployed offers pocket-sized gym
Army Fitness Deployed offers pocket-sized gym
By Tim Hipps

April 19, 2005

ALEXANDRIA, Va.(Army News Service, April 19, 2005) – Soldiers can flex their muscles any time at just about any place with a strand of elastic resistance tubing in a pocket-sized package dubbed Army Fitness Deployed.

The kit, which includes the Thera-Band® system of progressive resistance, recently was developed by Morale, Welfare and Recreation sports and fitness officials at the U.S. Army Community and Family Support Center. It comes with a notepad filled with strength-training tips concerning progression, muscle balance and rest and recovery.

The fitness guide was developed for Soldiers to maintain their muscular fitness while in the field.

“The adage ‘use it or lose it’ applies to muscular strength and endurance,” said Janet MacKinnon, CFSC fitness program manager. “Muscular strength relates to the maximum force a muscle can generate in a single contraction, while muscular endurance relates to the ability of a muscle to generate force repeatedly or continuously overcome. This kit benefits users at every level of conditioning.”

1. I don't know really what say. Its an intresting little story and the
thing seems to have far more uses than intended. I just wonder how much we are paying for it. Its probably made for 25 cents and the US military is getting charged 25 bucks.

2. Well, Maybe....
Could be they say they are paying more for it, while the pockets of others get lined and black projects get funded. Wonder what ties there are with this whole thing and GOP freaks? Worth taking a gander at....

3. From the land of $4,000 toilet seats, I'll bet it's more than $25 a pop.
I looked up the company that makes Thera-Band resistance bands, but did not see any prices.

7. Yes you are right
My favorite was the coffee maker that was built for Air Force transports that would keep operating while being subjected to G forces that would kill the crew. They were going for 5,000 dollars a pop.

8. For that you want to be in the French army
The first plane to land a Dien Bien Phu when the French were stting up held a portable brothel. That is how the French take care of morale.
