1. Love the Google ads right in the middle of the article!
"Lose 9 lbs. every 11 days!"

2. From the article
>> The government on Tuesday discarded its one-size-fits-all food pyramid
>> in favor of 12 different triangle-shaped guides, each geared to people's
>> differing lifestyles and nutritional needs.

I wonder if each different guide will be named after a different apostle?

4. Is one of them St. Corn Syrup?
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 03:57 PM by NYC
Corn syrup is worthless garbage found in many foods. (Obviously, that's my opinion, but I'm not unique in feeling that way.)

a.k.a. St. Archer Daniels Midland

3. I support this--
I always found the food pyramid a confusing way to present the information. The things that should be avoided or limited in the diet were at the top of the pyramid--drawing the eye to them immediately--whereas the things that should be emphasized in the diet were at the bottom and not as visible at first glance.

I hope they come up with a visual that draws the eye quickly to the things that need to be emphasized in the diet.

6. I quit believing in the food pyramid several years ago
When I read an article that the basis for the food pyramid is what dry lot cattle farmers used to fatten their beef for sale. I figured if it would fatten a cow, I didn't stand a chance.
That kind of did it for me,lol.

7. Too bad...
It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's good for you and what's bad for you.

They don't call the Standard American Diet "SAD" for nothing.

Your diet should consist mainly of organic fruits, veggies, legumes, whole grains, and nuts.

No meat, no dairy, no caffiene, no sugar or artificial sweeteners (honey, maple syrup, etc. is ok), limit gluten (no wheat if it's a problem), no alcohol, no artificial ingredients, no non-organic foods.

THIS is the diet that's not only healthy, and can not only prevent type 2 diabetes, hypertension, fibromyalgia, heart disease, etc., it can actually reverse many of these conditions as well.

No drugs to buy, no plans to subscribe to, no brand names to rely on. Just you and mother nature.

You don't have to do it, you can say "this or that" isn't so bad, or "a little won't hurt me", etc., but you're just kidding yourself.

If you don't want to eat healthy, don't. Enjoy the doctor and pharmeceutical bills as you age! :)

8. You're a lot of fun.
:P

Actually, what you say is true. But SO hard to do. They say it is important to instill habits early in life, and I really believe that. I don't think it would be so hard to follow a healthy diet if you've done it all your life. My diet growing up wasn't horrendous, but it did include much of the stuff that isn't good for you.
