7. very far right
May actually call for excommunication for American Catholic politicians who are pro choice. And since the catholic church includes birth control pill as abortion, this could really be a nightmare.

I also read his statement on "reigning in the USA" and the moral decadence here in respect to gay rights and, ready for this one, DIVORCE. Oh, sounds like a bumpy ride.

Sounds like the Fundies will just love him; abortion, birth control, divorce, and gays. Right up their alley.

8. divorce
Since when was divorce an issue with them? I thought they just didn't want gays to be married. Everyone can divorce! I thought.

Anyway, I saw this guy on the TV and my exact words were "Oh Shit." And I was in the middle of lunch with all the students, so I had to explain myself.

9. However
There maybe a power grab once new Pope and Falwell et al discover that they could get more converts (money) by appealing to each now that they are similiar in some regards. Look at what is happening in Latin America.

10. If I hadn't left the Catholic Church 6 years ago, I would leave today.
"Reigning in (not only) the USA was very much part of the message.
This is the beginning of a very ugly period.
