We don't have one of these shoe stores in our area, but they do cover 25 states.

Identities Stolen from Popular Shoe Store Chain

COLUMBUS (AP) -- Thieves who got into the computer files of a shoe store chain obtained 1.4 million credit card numbers and the names on those accounts, the company said Monday. DSW said it has contact information for about half of the affected people and started sending letters notifying them to watch their accounts.

The thefts happened at 108 stores in 25 states between November and February. A list of the stores is available on the company's Web site, which we have linked below. Stores in Michigan were on the list.

The stolen information did not include home addresses or personal identification numbers, the Columbus, Ohio-based company said in a statement. DSW announced the thefts last month after notifying federal authorities and credit card companies. Besides the credit card numbers, the thieves obtained driver's license numbers and checking account numbers from 96,000 transactions involving checks, the company said.

3. This is getting frucking ridiculous
Let's see how long it takes the administration to jump on this. My bet is, not anytime soon. They'll just let all these innocents get racked for the $$ (at least what their cc company won't cover) and then they won't be able to claim bankruptcy!! :wtf:

I don't shop there, but you're doing a lot of DUer's a good service.

I bought a pair of boots here a few months ago: East Plano, TX

Just F'in perfect. Supposedly, my number was also one of a bunch heisted when they broke into UT's database a year or so ago.

Unbe-freaking-lievable.

Thanks for the heads up. Time to put a fraud alert out again with the credit agencies.

7. Hmmmm...
About a year or 2 ago I guess? It was the ex-students database, and I was there from Summer I 87 until Spring of 88 so I got a letter. They had to hire a service to do ID checks to find me under my new married name and address.

If you weren't a student, I don't think it affected you, sweetie. You probably would have gotten a letter.

6. Well, my local store isn't on the list
I wasn't as worried about it anyway, because it's been at least two years since I shopped there, and it was with an old account I no longer use.

8. Yet another reason...
to pay in CASH ONLY

If you only use cash for everyday purchases, it greatly reduces the chance of this happening to YOU...I recognize that paying bills usually must be done by check, but the less information about your bank accounts is held by third parties, the better. Not only that, but using cash to pay for stuff means that 1)the usury banks don't get their interest and merchant fees and 2)KKKorporate Amerikkka has FAR less intrusive information about your buying habits.:)
