What Rush Limbaugh said 10 years ago right after the OKC bombing...
I don't have an exact quote, but I do remember Rush Limbaugh, on his syndicated television program, saying basically this...

"Whomever did this, we should immediately drop a nuclear bomb over their country."

Turns out of course that it was an American fellow who did this, Tim McVeigh.

But doesn't this typify the conservative mindset?

First you generalize, then you respond in a rash and often violent manner, all in accordance with personally held dogma.

Is anyone as sick of it as I am?

9. I bet he felt like a fool
Finding out where he was from. See, you can't go by just skin alone and just think nothing like that can happen here. :eyes: It seems the only way they like to solve things is through violence.

17. Naw, Limpballs doesn't have the self-awareness or
capability for reason to feel like a fool. He just conveniently 'forgot' he said it.

2. It wasn't just Rush saying things like that
Just about everybody (including myself) initially assumed it was done by Muslim extremists.

4. Really?
Being that it was on the anniversary of Waco, I really knew it was an American. I don't say that to say "Hey, I was so smart" etc., but it just seemed obvious.

I remember I was in college and everyone around basically had the same conclusion.

15. Same here.. was in college as well and only one friend was convinced
of Muslim extremists.

The rest were openminded about possibilities.

6. I wondered why international terrorists would target Oklahoma City
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 01:28 PM by rocknation
when they could get more "mileage" out of targeting an internationally known U.S. city like, um, New York. And I was right. Hooray for me...

8. I think that's the thing that
makes it almost more horrible than even 9/11, it was done by one of our own citizens against his fellow citizens, maliciously and without remorse to the bitter end. He called the 19 children killed at the day care center "collateral damage."

I'm just as frightened of these domestic terrorists as I am of Al-Queda, maybe even more so. They slunk off back into the woodwork after Oklahoma City, but now they're starting to come out again, largely thanks to hateful republican rhetoric, which was what emboldened them back in 1995 to begin with.

Especially when Republicans are now calling for violence yet again, against "Activist Judges". No kidding!

21. Gore Vidal and OKC bombing
He thought Syrians might have been involved. He met with Tim McVeigh a few times and wrote about it in some articles and the book Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace or How We Came To Be so Hated.

I'm not saying I agree but it is interesting. I think it was a pissed off redneck with a fertilizer bomb.

20. Just about everybody assumed it was Muslim extremists?
The thought did not cross my mind. My first reaction was an American who hates the FBI, considering it was the Waco Conflagration Anniversary.

I'm unusual, but I thought it had something to do with Waco and also Hitler's birthday -- which is 4/20.

19. it was a common sentiment expressed by the right at the time
there were calls to detain all muslims in the country and prevent them from leaving, as well as other utterly racist actions. but once it was found that a good'ole white amer'kin boy did it there was nothing but silence.
