I asked a repuke if he would finally admit the Iraq war was about OIL...
Here is his response:

Oh sure, but not in the "make my friends at Halliburton rich" sense. Since most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Saudi's don't like us. Problem is, officially the Saudi government is our ally and we get our oil from them. All it would take is an assassin's bullet from an anti-American Saudi to overthrow their government and turn off the oil spigot to the U.S. overnight. If that were to happen, we aren't looking at $3 per gallon gasoline prices, we are looking at worldwide economic chaos which could lead to far worse than 9/11, including nuclear war in the mideast, if not worldwide. We couldn't take that chance. At the same time Bush could not publicly say that, since Saudi Arabia has not been overthrown and they (officially) are still an ally. But the overthrow of Iraq made good sense for the other reasons too - a despot in office who contributed to the instability of the mideast and who also labeled us the "Great Satan" and who disobeyed U.N. resolutions repeatedly; The WMD's were a strong likelihood but Sadaam had plenty of time to ship them off to Syria (or wherever) between the U.N. sanctions in October of 2002 and the start of the war in March of 2003 - that's almost 6 months to hide 'em or get rid of 'em, which is plenty of time. Iraq will eventually settle down as a free, democratic country and we will have our back up source of oil if Saudi Arabia falls. It also helped in the war on terror by disrupting the terrorists and serving notice to those nations (notice how Ghadafy changed his tune after Sadaam was captured) that harbor and aid terrorists that America will no longer appease their activity. You can point to Iraq and insurgents' attacks right now all you want, but the fact is, the new government is moving forward and despite all the insurgents efforts to disrupt the January elections, they happened anyway. And the ink stains on Iraqi's fingers prove that Bush was correct : Iraqis love their chance for freedom ! IF Saudi Arabia had fallen before we overthrew Sadaam, and the oil went dry, you know damn well that Americans could care less if Sadaam was a threat - all we'd care about is for Bush to get the oil from somewhere and restore the stability, no matter if Sadaam stood in our way or Tony Blair stood in our way !

1. "Iraqis love their chance for freedom!"
Send him the pictures from the massive protests in Iraq.

And then ask him what the heck that has to do with why we went to war!

10. and why is he still free?
After 3 years and 183 days, noone speaks of OBL anymore and there seems to be little continuing effort to "smoke him out"...

Bin Laden is off topic to an op about Iraq being fought for oil.

be careful...That one was almost disruptive.

3. "Making my friends at Halliburton rich" was just a side benefit
To making my friends at Custer Battles rich. And my friends at Bechtel. And my friends at . . . well, even a brain-dead dummy like your Republican acquaintance probably gets it by now.

Dick Cheney got $175,000 from Halliburton in 2003, and $194,000 from Halliburton in 2004. He didn't do a lick of work for them either year -- officially. Yet he pulls down over $3,500 a week from them. Jesus said something about a man's ability to serve two masters. What was it again?

5. Don't neo-cons believe in paragraphs?
Or is that just another liberal plot to infringe on their freedom?

6. The fact is, we are losing the invasion
Whoever this neocon is does not want to look the facts straight on. Every day, two Americans die there and it is on the back pages of the newspaper. The oilfields are not secured and they never will be. Once the American invasion fails and we leave, the oilfields will not be ours. And no one is going to want to join the military, so they are going to reinstitute the draft. There will be massive draft card burnings again. This country is ruined as far as any diplomacy with the producers of oil. And no one is encouraging alternate sources of transportation. They want to cut funding from railroads instead of BUILDING more tracks and train cars. Everyone will be walking or riding bicycles very soon. It is very discouraging to live in a country whose government officials have no regard for human life nor the welfare of its citizens. If you get a chance to see the German-made film, "Downfall", go see it. It is about Hitler's last days and what he says about German citizens could just as easily have been GWB speaking the same lines.

8. "Ghadafy" -- West Wing Quote Alert
Leo McGarry: Margaret, please call the editor of The New York Times and tell him that Khaddafi is spelled with 1 H and 2 D's and isn't a 7-letter word for anything.

9. I love that ditto responce
"they could have hidden the WMD's in Syria" Didn't we have Satellite photos of Semi's? Wouldn't we have seen them move anything. We were watching them like a hawk, trying to get them to act suspicious in any way. The best we had were those photo's of the semi and they were not very believable. My brother tried to give me that excuse before. These people certainly do not think for themselves!

12. It was stated in the WMD report recently...
that Saddam NEVER(recently) had WMD's, therefore he could not have moved them.

11. Just another Bush lover that ignores anything that hurt's Bush...
- Iraq Weapons report that states Saddam NEVER had WMD's.
- Reporters are claiming things are much worse in Iraq.
- Saddam was a bad guy is not reason to go to war.
- Terror attacks increased almost 400% last year.
- No proof of anything he claims.

Typical...

13. do these people honestly believe someone would turn off the oil?
I don't see it happening.

It is also insane that these people don't look to alternatives. I had an argument with a freeper over this issue. I said "I'll put ANWR on the table if you'll put conservation and alternative fuels on the table." No go. She yelled "you're lying, you're just like all liberals, you lie." So...there you go. When they don't like the direction the argument goes, they just call you a liar or say "cause God says so".

At least he admits it was about oil. (I also love his cover for not telling anyone the real reason for the war. They have an answer for everything don't they?)
