Why do most online poll results favor our view?
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 08:53 AM by Dawgs
We all know that the right has as much if not more passion for their side, so why do the polls always lean our way? Many times the margin is huge(80-20), where you would think it should be closer. If this country is really that divided, then why are we seeing this?

Look at the Delay and Bolton(http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20050419073009990004&ncid=NWS00010000000001) polls of late. They are both leaning 80% agianst and 20% for. Most people are against Bush's SS plan and the Schiavo mess, so what gives?

I can only come up with a few reasons, please add others if you care-->

1) Republicans don't care about online polls.
2) Republicans only visit the right wing sites(Fox News, etc...)
3) There are not that many Republicans, online or otherwise.
4) The majority of Americans actually think like us, but don't vote or are uninformed.
5) We are better at manipulating online polls.

Whenever a poll is close, just over 50% against us, we think it's being freeped. When a poll is generally in our favor the freepers think it's being DU'ed. What does that tell you?

I personally think the online polls tell us a lot about how our country really feels. I sure wish the media and Dems would wake up and realize this. What's funny is that it's the media who usually ask these questions. Do they even look at the results, or is there something else going on here?

Anyways, just my thoughts.

1. Generaly speaking,
I think that there are more interested Democrats/Indipendants online than republicans. This could have something to do with lifestyles and interests.

2. They probably realize that unscientific online polls are
totally meaningless and useless. While we have the energy (and naivete)of youth scampering everywhere to 'DU' these stupid things.

3. read what Naom Chomsky says about polls..
don't have a link but he says the credible polls all say that the majority of Americans want good health care, no war etc etc..everything we all talk about on here, but they are simply ignored by political parties.

4. Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner!
Neither I nor most of the people I know are psychopathic religious gun worshippers. We actually just want to live in fairly decent, safe neighborhoods where everyone is generally happy, where no one is treated unjustly. And the real news flash that the media won't report is that MOST people feel that way.

9. True, true, but

they don't seem to want to pay the taxes necessary to support the programs they would love to have. It's a conundrum.

6. I agree with all the reply's posted here but
the administration doesn't give a shit what MOST Americans think. The only ones they care about are the ones with the money. That's what the BFEE is all about...the dollar signs, large as life. Bushco could care less if the 51% that voted him in hate his guts now. He's got what he was after, power and control, end of story.

7. You don't think a poll on DeLay is going to attract more attention from
Democrats? I have noticed that when something bad happens to a Democrat or something good happens in Iraq then the poll favors Republicans 70% to 30%. If something bad happens to a Republican or something bad happens in Iraq then polls favor Democrats 70/30. What happens is Republicans don't like to read news that goes against what they are for and the same for Democrats. When something good happens to Bush I am much less likely to read the article because it makes me sick. The explanation for this is simple. It's all about people reading what they want to read and then responding to the poll in the article and staying away from bad news about their party.

8. because, for God knows what reason, people on this site think
that if some obscure online poll on cnn.com is in our favor, the country will move to more a progressive vision, when in reality, 99% of America couldn't give less of a shit about what some online poll says.

That, and online polls are about as decent a barometer of what the country's opinion is as a poll taken in Iowa regarding Indian Cricket Captain Ganguly's suspension from one day internationals would be.
