Something I want to see on DU
I'm ashamed I didn't think of this earlier.

We need an Osama bin Laden clock. One that counts down how many days, minutes, and seconds have passed since the first plane smashed into the WTC on 9/11/01. And we can post a picture of bin Laden next to it as a constant reminder to the rest of the world - and the neo-cons in DC - that we haven't forgotten Bush's promise, even if he has.

We don't stop the clock until we have overwhelming proof that bin Laden has been captured or killed.

Whaddaya think? Sound good?

2. My thoughts exactly
Bush tried his best to make Americans forget about bin Laden when he sent our troops into Iraq. When CENTCOM announced Hussein's capture, all these folks on an evangelical Christian site were rejoicing and celebrating. I just replied, "That's nice. So where's bin Laden?" They accused me of being a killjoy or something like that.

But just because they've forgotten about bin Laden doesn't mean the 9/11 families have. They want him brought to justice, and so do I.

3. This is something I'd like to see in the corporate media.
I remember (barely, because I was MUCH younger) watching the news blasting "Iranian Hostage Crisis - Day X" during the Carter administration.

The other counter that I've seen around here is the "X number of days since deficits declared unsustainable" It's my daily reminder.

5. Rush Limbaugh did it, too
When the Dems controlled the White House and Congress, every day, he'd count down "Day XXX of the Raw Deal." Simple and effective way of getting one's point across.

Hope the admins are reading this...

8. That's a good start
However, I'm envisioning a running clock that ticks off minutes and seconds as well.

Tick, tick, tick...

CIA agent alleged to have met Bin Laden in July

French report claims terrorist leader stayed in Dubai hospital

Anthony Sampson
Thursday November 1, 2001
The Guardian

Two months before September 11 Osama bin Laden flew to Dubai for 10 days for treatment at the American hospital, where he was visited by the local CIA agent, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.
The disclosures are known to come from French intelligence which is keen to reveal the ambiguous role of the CIA, and to restrain Washington from extending the war to Iraq and elsewhere.

Bin Laden is reported to have arrived in Dubai on July 4 from Quetta in Pakistan with his own personal doctor, nurse and four bodyguards, to be treated in the urology department. While there he was visited by several members of his family and Saudi personalities, and the CIA.

The CIA chief was seen in the lift, on his way to see Bin Laden, and later, it is alleged, boasted to friends about his contact. He was recalled to Washington soon afterwards.

And we can't seem to find him now?

15. How do you know that Bin Laden wasn't given safe U. S. military passage...
Out of Afghanistan?

Oh my, do I have a credible story to tell that just seems very strange and suspicious, that has not been reported, but I do not want to get a visit from a 'special agent' of the government.

18. Oh, I don't mind those stories at all
And, to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if * has bin Laden "on ice" somewhere, ready to "thaw" when needed.

Probably in a small cell on Kiribati Island, for all I know...

14. Now, do we start from the first time * said he'd get bin Laden
or the 2nd time, AFTER he said he wasn't concerned about where bin Laden was (I think he said this March '04??)? Just asking.

16. I suggest we start...
...from the very second that the first hijacked plane slammed into the World Trade Center and start counting from there. The symbolism is obvious.

I'm thinking of a real-time Osama clock for the homepage, the first page any newcomer to DU sees.

22. Putting it here on DU is a waste of time ...
Anyone who is part of this community already knows that.

The OBL clock should be in Times Square (wasn't there a debt clock somewhere).

Cheers
