"Vanessa Kerry finished in about four hours. Her dad was mobbed by runners and passers-by to wish him well, get his autograph, and snap pictures.

The Massachusetts Democrat is off crutches but still walking with a slight limp after recent knee surgery. And mum is the word on another bid for president in 2008.

"We're working on '06," he said. "It's way too early to think about that."'

It brings back the hope I had last year; the hope that somehow things were going to be better for the world.
