Two things I've learned from the FDR documentary
Two things I've learned from the FDR documentary is that even democrats can be high on power. If the democrats are running the country though they can tell the president"no." The republicans are too scared and power hungry themselves to say "no" to the president. The democrats could've easily said "yes, let's get to it!" and did whatever Roosevelt wanted but they didn't. They knew how to control things and have checks and balances. Two. Bush is trying to be remembered as FDR with his whole freedom and democracy thing and "saving" Social Security. At first I always thought he was trying to be like Reagan but after watching this documentary it was more of him trying to be like FDR. Sadly I don't think it's working quite well for Bush.

4. They both may have been power hungry, but at least FDR was intelligent.

He put his power to good use. Bush is just driving this country off of a cliff.

8. I don't think FDR was power hungry
Saying someone is power hungry implies to me that they're just after power for it's own sake and will use it just because they can.

I do think FDR enjoyed being powerful (and really, who wouldn't?), but was usually pretty smart about how to use it.

11. Politicians often do questionable things to cement their power.
It's not really anything new.

5. Preznit Precious is too stupid to think he's FDR
He doesn't even know who FDR is, except for what Mommy Kindasleazy tells him at bedtime.

Reagan he knows about because he was there ... addled to be sure, but there nonetheless.

9. Not so much trying to be like him...but trying to replace him
FDR represents everything bad about America for many, many, if not all, neocons and would be tyrants such as Bush...

He is compared to FDR intentionally...to lessen the memory people have of FDR (easy to accomplish for those who don't know history) and to position Shrub in a place above FDR...

they've taken a moment in American history with aspects they hate...FDR/New Deal....and want to re-create the aspects they liked...such as national unity behind a war(whether fully true or not, it's the perception)...and the societal norms and mores of that time (women and minorites in their place)....they want the 30's, 40's and 50's mentalities without the FDR/New Deal/Democratic connections...so they push Bush up as the "leader" of a return to those "values"...

However, anyone who knows history knows...

Life wasn't Ozzie and Harriet or Leave It to Beaver...

but republicans still see that time as "ideal"....

Neocons want the cry to be GWB and not FDR...they want it to roll off tongues just as easy but with more respect...

out to be like him? Nah....out to replace him....bank on it. That's their goal.

10. The fourth reich wants....
To use the propaganda machine inherant in the truth about the Nazi war, to fuel the cult who now controls the nation to become better and move beyond with more power and corruption than ever before.

And make Hitler look tame.

12. that, too
and they have to change the memory of FDR to aid this along...make it seem as if they are just a part of the natural progression of Americas growth toward a more real democracy...

"maintain the illusion of democracy"...as it were.
