Lookin' for a cheap date? Try Wal-Mart

The food, makeup, underwear is at "Everyday low prices" but a Wal-Mart "date" could be for free.

By Parija Bhatnagar, CNN/Money staff writer

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Just when you thought you'd heard it all from the king of discount shopping, Wal-Mart is now pitching itself as the new dating hot spot -- with everyday low prices to boot.

<snip>

On Friday nights, singles looking for romance, mindless flirting or just a new friend head over to their neighborhood Wal-Mart where they're given a big bright red bow to attach to their shopping cart or shopping basket.

<snip>

But if that's too intimidating, Wal-Mart has set up "flirting points" around the stores stacked with "romantic" merchandise, such as chocolates, wine and cheese, to help with that first awkward step.

1. that's...just weird
I mean, I understand the appeal of having these "date nights" set up...but at Wal-Mart?
Yuck. I'll continue to date guys from Trader Joe's and Starbucks :D

I would say, "that is...just twisted, like the bow on the basket."

edited because I should not use apostrophes. :-)

2. Oh good fuck.
I would go to a church to find a partner before I'd go to a Walmart.

And I'm an atheist.

3. "Look at me, I shop at Walmart on Friday nights because I'm lonely!"

Um, don't think it will work.
Who wants to bet that on average, the participants will be about 99% women?
A big red bow? Sigh.

5. If It Was Someone Besides Walmart...
I'd be all aboard this idea. I'm engaged now, but I know how hard it can be to find someone when bars and clubs are not your scene.

8. It's because Wal Mart is tanking in Germany...
According to news reports, Germans haven't taken to the big box concept and because they have strong unions, German workers are appalled at Wal Mart's "the company is always right" approach.

12. Just on the news a new ad from Wal-Mart the conservationists.
Anyone see this yet? Wal-Mart has pledged to set aside the same amount of land for a wildlife refugee for every piece of land they pave over with a store. I'm really looking for the strings attached here. No link. I just saw the ad on TV.
