Is it mere coincidence that two weeks after being named #48 on our "50 Most Loathsome New Yorkers" list, publisher Judith Regan is packing her bags?

Well, probably. Her announced move to Hollywood makes perfect sense. Regan—who, with her HarperCollins imprint Reganbooks, let her inveterate starfuckery run hog wild with an endless series of sex-drenched instabooks by "celebrities" like Amber Frey, Jose Canseco and a hundred others—announced on Monday that she's moving the entire operation out to Hollywood. With easy access to even more quasi-celebrities, Bernard Kerik's former mistress will not only be able to continue her tireless crusade to murder off what little is left of serious American publishing, she also plans to start turning her latest crapfests into quickie made-for-tv movies. It's Regan's trademark brand of garish whoredom at its sleaziest. She'll feel right at home out there.

Regan looked straight into the camera and for almost 10 minutes, delivered a pseudo stream-of-consciousness poetry riff mocking Clinton. Referring to his sad boyhood, she mocked his loneliness, then proclaimed that he built himself up and called himself KING, because "I am rich and I can do what I want!" She likened him to the cast out Socks, and envisioned him an old man meeting up with Socks at 125th street, both holding tin cups. ....

It was incredibly vicious. What was especially appalling was how she took the most painful aspects of Bill's background--his truly grievous childhood--and twisted them, using them to mock him. If this wasn't the "politics of personal destruction" I don't know how else you could describe this horrific display. ....
