There was NO "Regular" grade gas at the station this afternoon
and I don't think they were expecting to get any in soon-- all the pumps were "bagged".

I just wonder if they were in fact out, or if it was a scheme to force a purchase at a higher grade for a higher price?

I fear this nonsense will spread out of control. Twenty dollars to put half a tank of gas in my Ford Ranger pickup truck is insane.

2. Doesn't surprise me
not only high prices, but I would not surprised to see a gas shortage soon. I can't stand these pukes.

6. And how much did you make per hour back then?

(PS: I ain't young either; regular was 29.9 / gallon when I started driving. But minimum wage then was either $1.20 or $1.60, I forget which.)

8. It was 50 cents an hour
At least, that's what I was paid to work when I got a job as a teenager in 1965. And gas was 30 cents a gallon.

Which kinds gives you a perspective on the price of gas, but no one likes to talk about that. They want cheap gas AND no use of the military to steal it from the middle east.

Go figure

13. Well said. Gas was the equivalent of $3.00 / gallon in 1981,
and I remember people complaining, but not acting like it was the end of the world like many are doing now.

We grew up poor, so gasoline was ALWAYS expensive to my parents.

Too many people in this country have come to think it's some kind of right that the cost of fuel for a trip should be so low as to not be a factor in deciding if that trip is really necessary.

7. We also got our windshields washed and the oil and tires checked.
And we never had to get out of our cars. Self service was unheard of. We even charged our groceries at the neighborhood store. Dad paid the bill every payday. No interest. No hassle.

16. $20 in an Altima?
WOW. Now that sucks.

I also remember the 70s. I was a kid, but boy, it was memorable. The lines...

I have an old (paid for!) '93 VW compact that goes to my place of work and home for a month on about $30. I am thankful for that.

9. I think some are conveniently out..
just to force the higher priced gas. Was this a private station? We still have a couple around here, they sometimes run out of regular.
