Presidential Advisor. Progressive. Civil Rights Worker. Women's Rights Worker. Equal Rights Worker. United Nations spokeswoman. Philanthropist. Author. Teacher.

And in my view, the most admired woman of this century.

2. Yes to all the above! I wish she were alive today.
We need someone with Eleanor's brilliance, compassion and unswavering committment to humanity right now.

3. When I heard that some stupid poll
... of Murkans found that Pickles was the "best first lady," I about retched. Have these idiots no sense of history? Eleanor Roosevelt was a million times the woman Laura fucking Bush will ever be. She's a hell of a lot more of a role model to me than that Stepford bot will ever be.

Yes, Eleanor Roosevelt was an extraordinary woman.

9. Also, our first (and probably only) bisexual First Lady.
That makes her even cooler in my view. The best First Lady we ever had or will ever have.

(BTW, if anyone wants to debate my above assertion, please read Blanche Weisen Cook's works on Eleanor Roosevelt, as she is the one who first suggests a romantic relationship between E R and newspaper reporter Lorena Hickok)

10. The FDR program is about to discuss Eleanor's intense fight with
her husband against the internment camps. What a wonderful woman! If only he had listened to her about this and many other things.

13. We have so much to thank this woman for.
Watching the program on the History Channel last night I was so impressed by her dedication to human rights and her great disappointment in her husband's lack of support for an anti-lynch law, that she went to congress and sat in the gallery during the hearings. The President was angry at this display of her convictions and when he asked her why she was doing this, she answered "I am bearing witness." What powerful words for a woman in the late l930's to say to her husband and the President of the United States. Laura Bush can only read about what Eleanor Roosevelt did to promote human rights, that's as close as she'll come to greatness.

14. Hated, despised, smeared, and repudiated by the RW, racist, wingnuts
in America.

She was a true national treasure.
