2. St. Cloud is in Mark Kennedy's district. *puke*
Rather conservative. Although being a larger city and a big university town, there's probably a considerable liberal population.

I doubt you'd be able to pull in AAR, though. The AM signal comes in pretty good down here in the Twin Cities but St. Cloud is over an hour away.

4. Where do you live now?
Have you checked into the winter temps in St. Cloud? That is one cold, cold, cold place in the winters. With the price of oil right now, I would certainly consider the price of heating my home for their long winters. No doubt you've already considered this, but I did want to point it out just in case. Winters in Minn. are horrid.

AAR dies out by Albertville (40 miles south of St. Cloud), no signal in St. Cloud even on the best days.

5. The politics are quite conservative, as it voted heavily for Bush in 2000.
And most likely Bush again in 2004. As a previous poster mentioned, it's Mark (Screech) Kennedy's district, who is total scum as demonstrated by his slimy campaign against his challenger, Patty Wetterling. There is no local television news, and the paper is a little bit conservative...like the Washington Times. (But you can get the Star Tribune from the Twin Cities easily.)

As that same poster (who is now no longer with us) mentioned, you probably cannot get Air America on the radio, as it's too far away and the signal isn't strong enough. However, St. Cloud boasts two competing cable companies throughout the entire area, so cable rates are relatively low (as low as cable rates go).

On the upside, every first week in February the college radio station (KVSC) has a 50-hour trivia marathon that is loads of fun. There's several summer festivals that are quite enjoyable (the Wings, Wheels, and Water festival is loads of fun) and the Twin Cities are only an hour away down I-94.

I lived there for 12 years, and although I rented for all of those years, housing is okay. The city, and the surrounding towns total around 100,000 people, and for nine months out of the year, there's an upswing of 16,000 college students for St. Cloud State University. (Which has a very cool library.)

Be advised that St. Cloud is technically in Northern Minnesota and gets cold, so very, very cold in the winter. There's uaually a week or two in late January or February where the temp won't get above single digits, so heating costs may be a concern.

It's not a bad place to live, actually, but I got a job in St. Paul, so I left. Good luck! :hi:

6. moderate
very "paul welstone"

i'm originally form a small town very close to St. Cloud, it was our nearest large town, so i spent a lot of time there, left the area in 2001 so haven't ben there much to deal with post 9/11/bush politics in that area. generally though, i'd say people are fairly apolitical there, you're probably not going to have anti * rallies every month, but no freeper rallies either. count on driving to "the cities" for any real culture/entertainment.

if you're not familiar with the area, its a farming area outside the city, about an hour's or more to the tourist/resort part of the state. it gets hot and HUMID in the summer, lots of bugs/mosquitos! and cold/snowy in winter, the snow stays all winter! like many places, the area is growing in population very fast.

7. It's only moderate due to St. Cloud State University being there, IMO
Grew up 20 miles north of St. Cloud (Upsala, MN), and SCSU was where I went to school for 5 yrs (graduated in 2003). On-campus, it was nicely liberal. There was much grief amongst the college body when Wellstone died. Off-campus, it was fairly conservative.
