Bill Maher rules
First off, I'm new here. This is my first thread.

Second, I was watching his show from Friday that I taped and he had this insanely brilliant quote.

"So George Bush paid $207K on his taxes this year. But he did things differently - he claimed the Christian right as dependants, cited the 2000 election as a gift, and he tried to write off all the mileage that he got out of 9/11. "

Really, I have no comment for this because he really does speak the truth.

2. He comes up with some gems once in a while...
I still can't stomach his stand on the war.

Welcome to DU:hi:

11. I was listening to a repeat of Majority Report today,
the one where Sam interview Bill Maher. Bill didn't hold back about his disdain for the Shrub. He really doesn't like him, so I don't know what that stand is unless he's pandering to the right.

27. Maher's view on the war - he thinks bush
did the right thing because of how things have turned out there. He doesn't care that we were lied to, as long as Iraq has "democracy".

3. Welcome to DU
:hi:

I love Bill Maher. But he does have his foes here on DU. He is friends with ann coulter and he did say he was glad bush was re-elected.

7. I must have missed it......
I haven't heard Bill Maher say he was glad *** was reelected(reselected). Are you sure he said that?

8. Yep
He even said before the election that he hoped he would win. Maher sees bush as ammunition for his routines.

9. Thanks for that
I hadn't heard. I'm going to choose to believe that he just meant it in a kidding way for comedy fodder.

10. Tongue in cheek
I don't think he was really serious in wanting Bush. He just made the point about how much material someone as bad as Bush provides for people like him to use.

19. Correct. It was clearly tongue and cheek
I heard him say that Bush being reelected was good for his comedy routine; it was obviously a joke.

He voted for Kerry, and if you watch the show after the election he was clearly upset that Bush had won. I don't know how anyone who has ever watched his show could honestly think that Maher was happy that Bush was reelected. Just because he agrees with Bush on one issue, people want to pretend that he is endorsing the entire neo-con agenda.

28. Here it is:
New Rule: And this is the hardest New Rule I have ever had to deliver, and I know a lot of you aren't going to like this, but here it is. Let Bush win! I'm sorry. I know it's terrible to say that. But like every other swing voter in America, I got to think about the issues that are important to me. And to me the most important issue is... having an erratic jackass in the White House!

17. lately he's been saying
that even though Bush is an idiot and the war was based on lies, good things are happening in Iraq.

I know, maddening!

6. Bill Maher is great!
I always look forward to watching "Real Time" on Friday nights. His stand-up comedy is also really good. I enjoyed the "one man show" he had on cable last year.

you wonder where he got his opinion, but as a whole he's fine.

BTW welcome to DU!

Maher can be a little too preachy for my tastes.

And P.S.....WELCOME!

21. Yeah, I love the Daily Show.
It's easily my favorite show on TV. Maybe after Arrested Development.

But Maher has some interesting commentary, it's certainly better to watch than say, Sean Hannity and Maher's show doesnt make me want to kick my TV in.

22. The only way I can watch Hannity is to visualize myself as
one of the Witches of Eastwick casting a spell on him as he speaks until he is puking up buckets of cherry pits...like they made Jack Nicholson do in the movie. :) Have to smile just thinking about it.

for me. He's really messed up about women and doesn't hide his contempt/fear of them well.

I too think Bill Maher is extremely funny and usually right on the mark, but he's been disappointing me lately with this "Gotta give credit to Bush" BS.

24. I think he's just trying to appeal to the "red-staters"
Maybe Maher is trying to prove that he can be more fair and balanced than Fox News.

26. I agree with him on many things and I disagree with him on many things...
But generally he seems to be a good comedian. I especially liked his Wal-Mart/Nazi joke on the last show.
