Life In Prison For Sharing A Joint?
http://capwiz.com/norml2/issues/alert/?alertid=7419321&type=CO

Unfreakingbelievable. Child molesters get set free so they can rape and bury little kids alive.

But someone could share a joint with someone who 15 yrs ago was in a drug treatment program for their prescription drug addiction and get LIFE IN PRISON.

3. OMG
automatic five years for sharing with anyone who's ever been in treatment? That is absurd. Marijuana should be legalized, anyway.

:wtf:

5. The prohibitionists
are out of control again. They probably wont be happy till there is the death penalty for cannabis, such as in Asia.
But who really writes to their congressmen about this? only pot smokers? I think so, or family members of them.. nothing will ever change, the penalities just keep getting harsher and harsher.

8. Dems are just as guilty as repukes
together they have created a war on drug users.. with no success after all these years, only they have shown that America can imprison more than 2 million people.. the world's largest percentage of prisoners.. so much for land of the free.

30. Excellent point! Drug prohibitionists are soft on crime!
Another example of right-wing phoniness. They say they want to be tough on crime, yet they would rather let violent criminals go free than to have a more sensible drug policy.

15. A young woman I know did EIGHTEEN months in jail
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 10:10 PM by SoCalDem
because her boyfriend sold some pot. She's pretty ditzy, so I believe her when she says she didn't know what he was up to..

She's very typical of many young women.. 3 small kids, and desperate to have someone who "loves" her, so she latched onto this loser.. he moved in with her to "help out", and promptly got busted.. She was arrested with him (cops came to the house).. Het kids 7,5, & 2 were placed with her sister (luckily), but she had to spend 18 months.. he managed a plea and only did 6... (nice guy, eh?)..she had a public defender whom she met ONCE before her trial..

The really sad part.. 3 months before this happened, a mutual friend had gotten her a job with Ralphs' grocery store a UNION job with benefits..a GOOD job with possibilities, and she was doing great there..

16. That's horrible
I saw a Dateline once that talked about cases like that, where the innocent girlfriend is actually the one that ends up serving time because the the actual sellers get reduced or thrown out sentences because they rat out others... but the women know nothing so they have no leverage.

It's very, very sad.

she "allowed' a drug dealer to live in her home.. If she had owned the home, they could have seized it as well.. They did take her car (no great loss..it was a bucket) because they found items of HIS in it.:(

31. Seizing of property makes me sick!
America is not a free country as long as we have these vice law policies. They should call it what it is: legalized government theft! I think I remember hearing many years ago about a woman who lost her car because her husband drove it and solicited a prostitute! The car had been used to commit a "crime", so she loses it, even though she didn't commit the "crime"! She was basically punished for his actions!

26. Yes, verily we don't have enough non-violent drug offenders in prison
as it is.

They're going to have to build a whole new set of prisons for the "baby murdering" women who use the birth control pill, too. I think prison construction and the military industrial complex are going to be the ONLY industries remaining in the United States by the middle of this century.

My opinion? Life in prison, 30 days in prison- there should be NO prison. If consenting adults want to do drugs, it's not any of the government's business.

Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 04:39 PM by sweetheart
and they think that weed is a black person's drug. Its just another
Jim Crow law. As well, they are the theocrats who can't conscience
freedom of religion, like so many world religions that use cannabis
as a sacrament.

Increasingly it seems that John Brown was right, and maybe that white
racists only listen when they are dead.
