Wow. ESPN has higher journalistic integrity than most news outlets
ESPN.com actually has Peter Gammons apologizing, prominently on its home page, for failing to give full credit to a source he referenced in one of his articles.

It is a complete travesty that the rest of today's media doesn't have the same standards.

To see the initial apology:
http://espn.com (scroll down to "Today's Voices" in the middle of the page)

And for the full apology:

2. Reporting on sports news requires complete honesty and....
...integrity, otherwise, how could all those office betting pools ever be properly determined?

3. Isn't that where Keith Olbermann hailed from? That
says a lot, to me.

4. No Question
As a HUGE sports fan myself, I can testify to the fact that Gammons and Olberman are both class acts, and I do believe that in many ways sports journalism maintains a higher standard than the 24 hour news networks, if only because people demand more accountability. People are fanatical about their sports, to an extant that they aren't about news/politics, and it is for this reason that viewers won't accept major mistakes on ESPN but are willing to look the other way when Howard Kurtz spends a week talking about how Martinez's talking points came from the Dems.

Anyways, I just had to rant for a while :-)

5. You are spot on.
And it's sad really that people would care more about their favorite sports team than the direction of their country.

Welcome to DU!

6. The majority of this country has messed up
priorities! I like sports (major Giants fan and I originally hail from NY), but am still looking for a somewhat reputable talking head, besides KO, to look up to.
BTW, welcome to DU!

7. Thanks
Hehe, thanks Toby and babylon. Babylon, I'm originally from NYC too (though I root for the Jets). Anyways, nice to meet you both, and yeah, lets hope that one of these days people will get their priorities straight :-P
