Not quite what Governor Arnie had in mind
Support rally flops for governor

SMALL TURNOUT CONTRASTS WITH RECENT PROTESTS

By Dion Nissenbaum

Mercury News Sacramento Bureau

SACRAMENTO - It probably wasn't the photo op Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger hoped for.

An effort to demonstrate grass-roots support for the Republican governor fizzled Wednesday on a chilly Sacramento morning in the shadow of the Capitol dome.

Comedian Tom Arnold tried to rouse the 200 who showed up -- including a healthy contingent of Republican staffers -- in support of the celebrity governor who has been struggling to get back on message after weeks of slumping approval ratings and increasingly effective attacks.

A Schwarzenegger aide tried to herd supporters together to fill camera shots while a band played what one supporter dubbed``elevator-meets-not-so-good-piano-bar'' music. A contingent of uniformed private security guards ringed the rally to fence out counterdemonstrators.

3. Having Tom Arnold there must've backfired.
People will move to another state to avoid Tom Arnold, I've heard.

4. Ah-nuld is starting to remind me of the kid on the playground
You've seen the type: Big and popular at first, everyone loves him. He picks on other kids and calls them names, but because everyone loves him and really hates the kids he's picking on, they continue to flock around. The kids he picks on, though, drift away, but Ah-nuld doesn't change his tactics, and when his usual targets aren't around, begins picking on the kids who are around.

They start to drift away as well, and one day, the kid who was big and popular is playing pretty much by himself, attended by one or two sycophants who revel in his attention and don't mind his bullying ways.

Guess where Tom Arnold fits into this picture.

5. That guy simply isn't "fun" anymore.
He is being show to be rather mean spirited, people don't like that.

8. I think he has ruined his "political" career as well as his hollywood one!
girlyman was the beginning, but when he messed with the nurses and teachers and picked on them, I think people started seeing that he is just a big ass. I used to like him as an actor. I don't now and will never rent or watch his movies again.

11. I think his biggest mistake
so far was when he called CA nurses a special interest group. A very non-resonant message here in the Golden State.

Health care professionals are among the last group of professionals still working in America. Can't outsource them.
