Guns-in-bar measure advances in House - AZ
http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/index.php?page=local&story_id=041305a4_gunsandalcohol

PHOENIX - The Arizona House voted yesterday to let people take guns into bars and restaurants if the establishments don't deny them permission and if the bearers aren't drinking alcohol.
Arizona now bans possession of firearms in bars and restaurants that sell alcohol.

Supporters say current law deprives law-abiding citizens of the means to protect themselves and others and subjects their guns to the risk of theft if they're left in vehicles parked outside bars or restaurants.

Critics said the bill (SB1363) could lead to confrontations in bars and increases in insurance premiums for the businesses.

<snip>

Hopefully Gov. Napolitano will veto this one too.

Let the red-staters all get drunk and shoot each other.

14. Increased risk for bar owners/employees would seem a reasonable
legal rebuttal to the proposed law. That and the attendant increase in insurance premiums on their business. I'm no lawyer, but they probably have their hands full as it is and don't need the added legal responsiblity that may come with the law.

15. In another part of the article.........
it says:

"Under the bill, backed by the National Rifle Association, people could carry weapons into bars and restaurants that don't post notices prohibiting it. It was opposed by law enforcement groups and organizations representing bar and restaurant operators."

Post a notice? When do people read those and if it after dark with no light could you see it? When was the last time bar patrons looked at the 'Alcohol/Pregnancy" poster? Strange thought about that: The town where I work, the average age is around 72....when was the last time a retired lady had pregnancy complications from alcohol?

20. great law
If a person has a permit to carry the weapon, then they should be allowed to carry it in a "bar" (AKA the local restaurant that also serves alcohol), unless the business owner asks them not to. Just like you can't drink and drive, you can't drink and carry. Off-duty police do this all the time (i.e, carry in "bars").

Non-issue. Time to move on to something important, like Tom Delay's Kapital Korruption, the impending war with Iran, or something actually relevant.

26. Non-Issue??? Do you live here?
I don't want any customer to be carrying a weapon while I am on the premises. Who knows how many drinks a person with a gun have had before I entered the establishment? Will I be caught in the middle of some sort of dispute?

Why do people think that guns and alcohol mixed together are good for our country?

21. Thought they already could - Tombstone bartender was packin'
I don't think my SO noticed, since said bartender was about 120 pounds and had DD breasts, but when I asked about her pistols, she said she carried because she was worried about locking up at night. It's possilbe that she didn't load them until the patrons were gone, but I doubt it.

Would you want a peatron coming at you while you were locking up at night?

endorse this red state view of life. Many of us actually feel life is important and guns have no place in bars.
