BREAKING: DeLay seeks congressional review of Schiavo case!
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 06:21 PM by Bluebear
Wed Apr 13, 2005 06:52 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who denounced judges involved in the court battle over Terri Schiavo, said on Wednesday he has requested a congressional review of the brain-damaged woman's "right-to-die" case.

The House Judiciary Committee could seek to impeach those judges, but that seems highly unlikely as even many of DeLay's fellow Republicans have voiced opposition to that option.

DeLay, a Texas Republican, declined to say if he believed any of the judges should be impeached but told his weekly news conference, "I've asked the Judiciary Committee to look at the case and the actions of the federal judiciary and make their recommendations."

Recommendations could include legislation on the jurisdiction of federal courts in "right-to-die" cases or, as a likely first step, a hearing on how the courts handled Schiavo. The Florida woman, who suffered severe brain damage 15 years ago, died last month following the court-ordered removal of her feeding tube amid a bitter family dispute.

27. Yep
In other words maybe they're going to let him take the fall and he'll be gone and they won't have to take the blame for anything as usual.

5. DeLay: Stop wasting our tax dollars and stop diverting attention from
your ethics problems.

Or: Look what the RW in America has wrought: record deficits, unemployment, poor health care, invasion of a sovereign nation, unnecessary deaths of over 1500 US soldiers and untold Iraqi civilians, talk radio that breeds RW murderers, and now threats to Federal judges.

19. The real barbarism of the Schiavo case
It should not have been necessary to starve her to death and to drag-out the ordeal over weeks and weeks.

She should have been allowed to be assisted in dying peacefully.

Yes, you do go to jail for starving a dog to death.

But you can also go to jail for not allowing a suffering and dying dog the humanity of being quietly put to sleep and put to rest.

11. They say the best defense is a good offense.
I don't like it. I hope this ploy blows up in his face.

But there's a non-zero chance he could hoodwink the freepers into helping him pull it off.

12. Moron-The Schiavo bill was poorly written
Delay is an idiot. The courts made the proper ruling in the schiavo case. Senator Carl Levin gutted the bill on the Senate floor and so the courts made the proper rulings. All Delay is going to do is highlight the fact that he is an idiot.

convicts who later turn out to be innocent by DNA tests, I guess I'm ok with this.

18. Why is he digging his own grave?
He has got to be the only person in America who doesn't realize that the Schiavo issue wasn't the political home run that the GOP thought it would be. Everybody else in his party justs wants this issue to die, yet, this idiot keeps bringing it back to the forefront.

Republicans are already starting to think that this guy is more of a risk than he is worth (notice recent statements by Shays, Santorum, and Bush). They want this issue to die, and they're going to pissed at Delay for trying to make a political issue out of it again.

Just like Gingrich, Tom Delay will be brought down by his own Party.

I'm just surprised. As much as I hate Delay, I've always gave him credit for being a shrewd and skilled politician. Guess I gave him more credit than he deserves.

31. Why doesn't he single out one person
planning on having an abortion and make a media circus out of that ONE person? It would make as much sense as the Shiavo case. Maybe it would be a winning issue this time.

I shouldn't be giving him ideas like this.
