Dana Rohrabacher (R): Shays is "out of touch", disloyal to party, people
snip>
...Shays' comments drew a sharp counterattack from a conservative California Republican.

"I think that Chris Shays again has demonstrated he's totally out of touch with what the mainstream of the Republican members of Congress are feeling and that he is disloyal to the party and to people as individuals," said Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2005/04/11/house_dems_wants_ethics_rules_gop_changed/

This is the same Dana Rohrabacher whose crystal clear judgement brought us assurances about the stabilizing influence of the Taliban.

snip>
Rohrabacher calls the sensational media reporting of the “harsh” imposition of strict Islamic behavior, with the underlying implication that this somehow threatens the West, “nonsense.” He says the Taliban are devout traditionalists, not terrorists or revolutionaries, and, in contrast to the Iranians, they do not seem intent on exporting their beliefs.

1. Message boards were full of anti- New England rhetoric today
Now it's not just "liberal Massachusetts" but all congresspeople from New England, D and R, who are "out of touch with heartland values". "Loyalty to the party" evidently means NO dissent. Sieg Heil, Dana.

5. If the Taliban were simply traditionalists...
then how come very few Muslims accepted the Taliban regime?

Every Muslim, myself included, that I personally know hated the Taliban Regime.

And they call us crazy.

8. Chris Shays
Why is he pissing all over Chris Shays?

I wasn't impressed with Chris Shays' comments yesterday, because when I read them, he only seemed to be concerned with how Tom Delay might be hurting the Republican Party. He didn't focus on Delay's lack of ethics, and him being unqualified to serve as a Majority Leader.

16. because you don't speak ill, fuck with, look at or
pass judgement on the sugar daddy of the republican party. Shays dared uncircle his wagon and now if others don't bail on the cockroch than shays will dangling out there alone and the the gop will either find a rightwing nut in ct to run against him or they won't help him get and $$$ for his next campaign.

23. Right! I see what you're saying.
And I agree with you. I'm glad that Chris Shays spoke out against The Hammer. My only point was that Chris Shays seemed more concerned with his power, and the power of the Republican Party, than Tom Delay's ethics, which is where I think the focus needs to be.

That's all I was trying to say.

25. what it comes down to for Shays and many of his silent gopers is
they would like to him him go, Delay is a petty vindictive asswipe and i think most of the house is sick of living under his dictatorship. As for what Shay's real concern is, i'm going to guess that when he goes back home for the weekend he's getting a lot of shit from the people he represents.

18.  journalist3072, I hope your not disappointed in me too!
:hi:

Because I'm all about how Tom DeLay is hurting the Republican Party. In fact, I'm extatic about it. It totally rocks. They deserve this and much, much more. Of course, I just presume lack of ethics by the whole bunch (inlcuding those who remain in the party) since they are such a crock.

Tommy boy, thanks for the

24. Oh trust me, I'm rejoicing in the Repug's troubles too
Again, my only point was that I feel like Chris Shays could have taken a more principled stand, if he focused on Tom Delay's lack of ethics, rather than his concern that Delay is hurting the Party and their chances in the mid-terms next year. That's all.

28. Oh, you are soooo right. It's like the Oscar Wilde trial when
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 11:45 PM by autorank
the prosecutor asked if he diddled a certain boy and Wilde responded by saying, of course not, I don't find him at all attractive.

Shays missed the point by a country mile.

They know where thier bread is buttered and Chris Shays knows he can win without them or just doesnt care.

9. Dana strikes me as not only being
incredibly partisan but pretty stupid as well. I have never heard him say anything of substance. He blathers the most extreme of the RW talking points and I hope the Dems run someone against him.
He's always wanting his 2 minutes of face time on TV but can't say anything of value.

could to help him out (I'm a medical student, not a doctor yet). He seemed to have little to no help from the national party, he was running as one of Dean's 100 Candidates and is running again in 2006. I really hope that Howard Dean sends some serious cash his way, he'll be an excellent replacement for the piece of garbage that occupies CA 46th right now.

Someone with a brain ran against a right wing surfer and lost. Huntington Beach, big surfer spot? I have no clue how this guy could get elected. Maybe it's because he's bonded with surfers?

I kinda remember reading something about some Repug who surfed who was in Congress. Guess it must have been him. Though when I look at him I see someone who looks like a wipeout waiting to happen. I guess he must keep the sharks away.

21. Yep. But they don't care about the American people.
You don't vote for majority leader, and almost all the seats are safe.

The republican caucus is its own little nation, answerable only to itself and its master Delay, and Shay is out of step with everyone WHO COUNTS.

13. Gee, when it's Zell Miller or Joe Lieberman
It's splashed all over the media as to how "bipartisan" some bit of Republican skullduggery is -- Look! A Democrat supports the Bush doctrine of torture (or some such offense against the body politic). When it's Shays, a Republican going against his party, they'll trot out a demagogue like Rohrabacher (as if he had a brain in his empty little head) to denounce Shays as a traitor to the party who needs to be purged.

Nosireebob, no double standard here! Democrats and their supporters are always wrong, Republicans and their supporters are always right.

22. Rohrabacher is part of the Abramoff/Indian gambling circle
http://www.bizforward.com/wdc/issues/2002-11/government/abramoff/

“The DeLay thing is played up a lot in terms of our relationship. The fact is when I pitch a client, I never mention Tom DeLay. I never say I know Tom DeLay.” Abramoff says he’s just as close to other Republicans, like Reps. Roy Blunt (MO), Christopher Cox (CA), John Doolittle (CA), Phil Crane (IL) and Dana Rohrabacher (CA).

http://www.jacknewfield.com/sun/indianGaming.pdf

Abramoff has personally contributed to 30 Republican senators, PACs, and congressmen, including senators Arlen Specter, Christopher Bond, John Ensign, Jim Bunning, Charles Grassley, and Richard Shelby; Congressmen Tom DeLay, Ernest Istook, Richard Pombo, Doug Ose, and Dana Rohrabacher; and DeLay’s Americans for a Republican Majority PAC.
