Now that the WH has endorsed Delay, will the media back off?
When Rumsfeld was under attack, the media backed off the minute the WH endorsed Rumsfeld. Will the lapdog media now back off Delay?

1. Did they ever get on him?
Seriously, there's no feeding frenzy. This is a below the fold story still.

7. Not so below the fold
At least MSNBC has it as their Question of the Day:

5. Remember Trent Lott
He's the model here, not Rumsfeld.

The White House stood behind Lott publicly, but worked to unseat him as majority leader behind the scenes.

8. This one has some driving forces that will keep it going:
not the least of which is criminal investigation, which can make the rats attack each other to get off the sinking ship.

And this one has finally started to hit such media as the Dallas Morning News.

11. The media smell blood
Some in the media would love a good fight between Bush/Rove and Delay. It would sell papers and make some good tv viewing.

12. DeLay interfered with the nature of Rove and Cheney, and he must atone.
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 07:00 PM by rocknation
DeLay announced that any Repub who didn't back him would not get any financial support in their future political campaigns, and signed his death warrant. Arrogance unto the gods, the ancient Greeks called it--the gods being Rove and Cheney.

Consider the implications if DeLay was able to make good on his threat--it would give him control the party by forcing repugs to choose him over Rove and Cheney. No way--if that happens, DeLay usurps their thrones. So Cheney came out of the woodwork to put in on public record that he didn't think DeLay's judge-threatening remarks were "appropriate." Bush followed up by saying the judiciary should be "independent." And Scott McClellan said that bush still considers DeLay a "friend."

In short, they declared "open season" on DeLay--they WANT the media to attack. Embarrassing stories begin popping up in the media--including traditional right-wing media--like dandelions. DeLay's parter in crime Abramoff has started shooting off his mouth. And most important, prominent Republicans are beginning to say he should step down.

DeLay isn't Trent Lott, who became a mere embarrassment, or Rumsfeld, who could turn the Bush oval office into a world of hurt if he were to "flip." To Rove and Cheney, Delay is an imminent threat. They've retaliated by unleashing the media and assuring the GOP that they'll be rewarded for turning on DeLay, depriving him of his only leverage. So either he jumps before he's pushed, or he's in for a very rough landing.

14. Cogently put! Delay overstepped, definately. And *'s tepid
"endorsement" (still considers Delay a friend) sounds like what he said about Ken Lay and George Tenet.
