Fundie Nutball James Dobson compares Justices to the KKK
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 02:02 PM by jefferson_dem
In his interview / sick-fuck spewfest with Mark "i'm almost as irritating as i am ignorant" Levin, James Dobson compares the "men in white robes, the Ku Klux Klan" to the "black-robed men" on the Supreme Court.

Listen for yourself... but best to have barfbag handy. Cue to 22:50ish.

Thanks to Josh at TPM for the find!

These religious extremists need to be called on what they are doing. They should be viewed with the same degree of contempt and disgust as Radical Clerics from other religions who try to impose theocracy and who threaten individuals based on their fundamentalist religious edicts.

66. Dobdson made his fame telling parents to beat their kids...
...in the name of the Lord. When I was a teenager in the late 70's / early 80's he was famous for his book and his lectures on "Dare to Discipline".

He reminded a whole generation of Christian parents about that Bible verse that says, "spare the rod and spoil the child". A whole generation of people who grew up in born-again households got their behinds lashed because of that man.

BTW, I do not think it made me a better person to be physically disciplined.

that wasn't so obviously racist, but allowed them to keep and bear arms (and kill many blacks, mostly in the south). Watch "Bowling for Columbine" to see a bit on this... or just do research on the KKK and the NRA.

15. Interesting that you brought him up...
...Eric Rudolph, that is. If I understand correctly, the agreement that the Birmingham prosecutor came to with Rudolph and his lawyers for a life sentence rather than the death penalty was based on the belief that he had more explosives stashed out there somewhere - not sure who he had arranged to use them - or was it some sort of 'doomsday device'? I can't believe this crap. If they were planning to blow up something the wingnuts held dear, then they'd have had him shot trying to escape.

People like James Dobson, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson have a very specific idea of where they want to take America. You won't like it.

* All "false religions"--anything except fundamentalist Protestantism--will be outlawed.
* Atheism and agnosticism will be declared false religions and likewise outlawed.
* The Constitution overturned and replaced with the Bible.

That's just for starters. There's a screed on the Internet somewhere about the first ten days of an American theocracy...lots of liberals get executed. I think they'll do it.

16. They are continuing the whipping up of the lunatic fringe
The fomenting of violence against judges has gone beyond subtle hints. For example, here's one of the RW "leaders" cited in an April 9 Wash Post article:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A38308-2005Apr8.html

And the Verdict on Justice Kennedy Is: Guilty

(snip)

Conservative leaders meeting in Washington yesterday for a discussion of "Remedies to Judicial Tyranny" decided that Kennedy, a Ronald Reagan appointee, should be impeached, or worse.

(snip)

Not to be outdone, lawyer-author Edwin Vieira told the gathering that Kennedy should be impeached because his philosophy, evidenced in his opinion striking down an anti-sodomy statute, "upholds Marxist, Leninist, satanic principles drawn from foreign law."

Ominously, Vieira continued by saying his "bottom line" for dealing with the Supreme Court comes from Joseph Stalin. "He had a slogan, and it worked very well for him, whenever he ran into difficulty: 'no man, no problem,' " Vieira said.

The full Stalin quote, for those who don't recognize it, is "Death solves all problems: no man, no problem."
Presumably, Vieira had in mind something less extreme than Stalin did and was not actually advocating violence. But then, these are scary times for the judiciary. An anti-judge furor may help confirm President Bush's judicial nominees, but it also has the potential to turn ugly.

(snip)

Sounds like the neocon version of a fatwa to me. In fact, the accumulated, relentless repetition of hate dialog targeted against specific judges makes me wonder if one of the things the are after is this: When particularly intransigent "activist" judges who refuse to be bullied out of protecting the Constitution are murdered, it can be blamed on someone - a RW fundie wacko - other than a government agent. Has it really gone that far? I think it's possible

And I want to know: WHEN ARE THOSE FOMENTING VIOLENCE AGAINST JUDGES GOING TO BE CHARGED WITH IT AS A CRIME?

17. He's a real peach - found this tidbit on Focus on the Family
The Website he seems most affiliated with. It was on the home page in the FAQ section (I clicked on it cause I thought the question was kind of bizarre):

Is the felt need for sex the same in both males and females?

<snip of the part of the answer>
This coin has two sides, however. Women should also understand how their husbands' needs differ from their own. When sexual response is blocked in males, they experience an accumulating physiological pressure that demands release. Two seminal vesicles (small sacs containing semen) gradually fill to capacity; as maximum level is reached, hormonal influences sensitize the man to all sexual stimuli. Whereas a particular woman would be of little interest to him when he is satisfied, he may be eroticized just to be in her presence when he is in a state of deprivation. A less passionate wife may find it difficult to comprehend this accumulating aspect of her husband's sexual appetite, since her needs are typically less urgent and pressing. Thus, she should recognize that his desire is dictated by definite biochemical forces within his body, and if she loves him, she will seek to satisfy those needs as meaningfully and as regularly as possible.

Sounds a little like he's blaming adultury on women not servicing their man enough to me.

23. sounds like a bunch of made up horsecrap
coming from someone who has a degree in biochemistry, I can tell you that women also don't get the vapors and we no longer give credence to such quaint medieval and victorian notions as balancing the four humours and phrenology.

So here's a question for him: suppose the tables were reversed and it was god's will that men submit and women do manly things, including having their "vaginal vesicles" fill up with love goo and becoming hypereroticized, how would he feel about Phyllis Schlafly telling him that "he should recognize that her desire is dictated by definite biochemical forces within her body, and if he loves her, he will seek to satisfy those needs as meaningfully and as regularly as possible", but first you have to make his wife a little paunchy and balding and righteous and demanding and neurotic.

These people are NUTS!

19. he's right. It's going to be WWIII
and they just happen to be playing the part of the Nazis.

I especially like what he said,"so we can rebalance the balance of power as the constitution intended it", straight out of the Revisionist handbook.

These people are not Americans. They're banana republic dictators and self styled high priests and tyrants, and they arise in every society that has the freedoms available to let them arise.

Freedom of speech is one thing, but advocating a coup of the political system by rewriting the constitution to eliminate the balance of powers really is sedition.

Why the heck are these people walking around free? Their goals are no different than any other run of the mill terrorist - subjugate America and keep its citizens quaking in fear. The other half of the rhetoric they spew is that gays and single women who have premarital sex should be executed for "moral crimes". No kidding.

I did. It is chilling. A case can be made that this all about money and power to some of these religious right leaders; with him, it's likely a double whammy - he actually is a Theocrat - and he likes money and power.

He supposedly has big tantrums when government officials don't show him enough attention.

Inflame the Freeper faithful until judges become the target of right wing violence in order to intimidate the judges. That's the strategy that these nut cases have used against abortion clinics and now they are using the same strategy against judges.

Eric Rudolph is the prototype for this sort of thing. How many of these Dobson types have you heard condemn Rudolph or any other abortion clinic bombers? And isn't telling that Rudolph didn't receive the death penalty for his crimes.

Even the Mafia didn't attack judges. The Mafia looks like boy scouts next to these thugs.

39. James "Dog-Beater" Dobson - - Proud Family-Values Sadist
I think James "Dog-Beater" Dobson deserves a lot more publicity re his penchant for puppy abuse.

Hullaballoo below has a nice juicy quote from Dobson's book, where the Dogbeater proudly (no, I'm not making this up) tells the story of belt-beating his very own Dachshund.

42. Every time I hear Dobson's name I think about that dog beating episode
Dobson is truly psychotic. Not only did he beat his dog but then he wrote about it in a book. I wonder if he believes it is okay to beat women and children. It wouldn't surprise me. I bet his kids turn against him when they grow up. Dobson just makes me want to :puke:

80. My vet referenced James Dobson and that story.
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 07:43 AM by The White Tree
I have a 1 1/2 year old miniature Dachshund. We have taken him to the same vets office since we got him and he has always been treated pretty well, especially by the staff. He needed to get his rabies shot for the year a few months ago but he hadn't been to the vet in at least 6 months.

Dachshunds can be stubborn dogs. Mine is very good, especially around people but he can be fidgety when being examined. We have a hard time cleaning his ears and cutting his nails (though now my wife holds him and talks to him the entire time and he actually will fall asleep while I am cutting them). At any rate, he was being particularly fidgety this time when the doctor was trying to examine him, mostly, I think, because it had been such a long time since he had been to the vet. As the vet, his assistant and I where trying to get him calm so the vet could look in his ears and having such a hard time, the vet casually said something about how James Dobson had used his dachshund as an example of how to deal with a difficult child.

What happened next scared my wife and left me severely uneasy to the point where I have been strongly considering switching vets. The vet decided it would be best to muzzle my dog so that he could examine him. I did not have a problem with this but my dog was naturally resisting the attempts to have the muzzle put on. All of a sudden the vet says something like, "Enough is enough" and it is like he morphed into a totally different human being and forcibly pinned my dog down and forced the muzzle on him. This was so traumatic to my dog that he was actually foaming at the mouth and his eyes got very blood shot. He popped his anal glands as well, creating a really bad smell. My wife was in tears. I didn't know what to do.

The thing is once the muzzle was on, my dog did get quite submissive and allowed the doctor to complete the examination and give him the shot without a whimper and then when he was released from the muzzle he was fine and actually seemed chipper.

So I don't know one way or the other if what he did had to be done or not, but the change in the vets manner, from this mild gentle guy to what looked like a domineering, masochist, has stayed with me. Particularly when it was coupled with his comments about James Dobson and his Dachshund and that was before I knew that the guy actually condoned beating the dog. I will have to check out what Dobson actually said and take that in advisement with regard to my vet.

Thanks for the information.

If I do bring him back, I will try to make sure the muzzle is put on before they do anything else so that at least he has less time to get used to it and I will make sure that I'm the one putting it on.

(edited for spelling)

44. Thanks for the post on the "Dog Beater"....I read that several months
ago and it's always refreshing to read such "up-lifting" insight about the Focus on Family leader James Dobson....what a slimy piece of crap.

on a much BIGGER dog (St. Bernard, Mastiff, etc). I'd love to see what happens then. :) Dobson is a typical RW bully, picking on a little Dachshund.

40. Oh, I just listened to the whole thing.
This is the most frightening thing I've heard - I predict that they will back Scalia in saying that our constitutional rights cannot be extended to the states (where we need them the most - due to everyday happenings). It has been held for many years that our constitutional rights are extended to the states via the 14th. That's what this is leading up to .. mark my words.

50. That guy is sick, wrong, and awful!
He has so many people in his sway, it's disgusting, and he just keeps leading them along. They really think he's some great Christian (excuse me while I :puke: ), and they take his word as gospel. I'm serious--I used to be Nazarene (like him--ick!), and I can't even begin to tell you how often they quote him on everything.

Evil, evil man.

54. call the REEEEEEEVEREnnd Dobson at this number..
1800 232-6459.

I just did and gave them hell. The guy I spoke to said "YO MAN YOUR TAKING THIS WAY TO LITERRALLY" I said " WELL YOU TAKE THE BIBLE LITERRALLY DON"T YOU?" He was flumexed with that retort and I think I got a zinger in there that he had a tough time responding to. He tried to suck me into the Terri Schiavo thing and I said hey that went throught the judicial system and every judge including conservative judges all found the same way for terri's Husband.

Any way give em a call it will cost them because it's their 800 number.

I told him it was irresponsible and lie to compare the judges to KKK and asked him to give me one example of a Judge in America who said it is OK to go out and lynch people and burn their homes and kill thier children?

67. I feel as sick right now as I did on Nov. 3rd!
There are so many, too many, things in this capsule of hate and lies that I cannot even begin to discuss it.

I am forwarding this on to as many people as I can. The Republicans I send this to will also get a question from me asking for their response. It will be very interesting to see how they respond.

I must now go take a shower. :puke:

84. Wow, that is scary.
I mean, I thought Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson were bad, but wow, James Dobson continues to top them all.

I cant believe that any sort of intelligent person would take Dobson seriously. I mean, after all, he is the guy who said that Spongebob Squarepants was gay.
