"Motorists around Australia were hit with record high prices at the petrol pump over the weekend, and there is little prospect of immediate relief in sight.

The cost of unleaded petrol was at or near all-time records yesterday in most state capitals following increased demand in Asia and a hike in crude oil prices.

In Sydney and Melbourne, prices of $1.16 a litre were recorded, while it was even higher in rural areas.'

1. got a bit of a surprise

when I went to fill up over the weekend but even though we pay considerably more than the US for petrol it's STILL cheap - when you take into account what goes into finding and processing it (including all the dead people) it should be 5 times the price. Not so much fun when you need your car for work like I do and it'd be nice if there wasn't 2 seperate taxes on it but at the end of the day it's really not that pricey
