The Latest News is for straight news stories and "editorial" comments on those stories. The uniqueness of General Discussion is that people can write their own editorial comments on the news of the day. It is this originality and the people on DU that make General Discussion unique and thought-provoking. I hope we can maintain the originality that keeps DU at or near the top in the weblog world. General Discussion and GD Politics are my favorite forums, although I always look at the news stories in LBN to see if our readers and posters are staying on top of the news. The Lounge is an escape when everything gets too heavy... :)

3. Alot of people use GD to vent.

Sometimes I do this myself. I don't really consider much of it "editorial commentary".
Sometimes alot of really good commentary which is an invitation to discuss (w/out being flambait) drops off the planet.
