I stood in line at a very small construction project along with a dozen or so other white men.

The boss ask "What do you work for?" "Five dollars an hour." I say.

"I can hire two of them for one of you." He replies, pointing to the line of black men waiting for a job just like me.

That was twenty five years ago in South Carolina.

In my mind I am trying to connect that happening to the immigration talk of today.

Isn't it the same thing?
