There Has Been A Police Helicopter Hovering Over My House ALL DAY!
Edited on Sat Apr-09-05 01:03 PM by DistressedAmerican
It has markings that look like our state police. I first noticed it hours ago when I got a distinct, fluttering propeller shadow in my window. It hasn't left in like 4 hours.

It is flying very low. Maybe 150-200 feet. It seems to be circling (well, going back and forth in a line). It turns over my house, flies out a block or two and returns. It has done this all day.

There is nothing going on here that a helicopter would help them discover. But, just the same. I have never seen anything like it.

How paranoid should I be about this?

If I had weed, I'd consider flushing it.

Pretty Close Up Huh?

19. I posted about helicopters too
Helicopters just kinda hover around here, military ones.Just to give you an idea of how low they are,it's low enough to maybe hit it with a rock if you threw it hard enough ..that's how low they fly..
I posted here before about this helicopter thing before..I said about 6 or 7 helicopters were hovering for about an hour over a road near us at 4 in the morning, freaked my cats out..I looked outside I saw lights were going up into the clouds.weird..They hovered and hovered ,Suddenly they flew off in formation over our house flying so low I thought they'd hit the trees.
My freind has seen the hovering over fields schools, just hovering low for as lomg as a half hour not moving..It's weird.
Why are they doing these hover excercizes? To get pilots to have skills to hover over protests and do something bad to people in specific ways?
Crowd control training..in intimidation? WTF?

3. They're onto you, Distressed...
Someone's been telling them about your subversive graphics. No, not really. Maybe there's been a robbery or something in your neighborhood and they're looking for a suspect. I wouldn't be too worried if you haven't been doing anything illegal.

24. 2 Problems With That Scenario...
First I have a baby who is sleeping quietly. I'd rather get arrested than mess with a much needed nap.

Second, What if there is a fugative in my neighborhood? Do I really want to run into them?

8. Po;ice Helicopters
They sometimes fly over my house on occasion. Sometimes they circle over for 30 minutes or so. Never for 4 hours. I should mention that I live in Canada with a city that has one Police Helicopter. Normally if their flying over my house its at night time and their looking for someone.

I don't think you have anything to be worried about. If they were coming to get you, I don't think they'd fly a helicopter over your house for 4 hours.

Maybe you could give the local police line a call and ask them why the helicopter is hovering over your house.

10. call.
Call the police dept. through their office line. Ask if there's something going on that you should be aware of.

If they say they're searching for a DistressedAmerican - um, burn the hard drive, put on a disguise and run?

35. Yes, just use the NON EMERGENCY number
Walking around might not be a good idea if there is a nut loose in the hood. And if they are staties, call the staties. Tell them your babies are frightened, and you want to know if you should leave due to a manhunt or whatever....

46. Don't be too paranoid...
Could they be using your house/road as a landmark?

I used to live in a building that the traffic cops seemed to use as a patrol point.

I would call the local cops though. Say you have a baby that can't sleep because of the helicopter. Our patrolling copter kept going round and round the building until they were called off to a real incident. It got to be very annoying being woken up in the middle of the night by it. It took a few complaints to the papers to get it stopped. (The idiots just didn't realise that the noise might be an issue for people on the ground.)O8)

We get police helicopters over the house a lot but it's because the kids at the school up the street can't go more than a week without having a massive brawl.

I'd poke my head out the door and make sure the SWAT team wasn't surrounding the nieghbor's house or anything like that.

56. Looks like a medical helicopter...
one of those Life-Flight things, maybe?

I see a lot around here because we're near a college and students are always falling down stairs drunk and getting flown to the trauma center.

Maybe they were on standby for some reason? Hard to believe they'd be training over a neighborhood.

Once a helicopter hung over my house for a long time (not four hours, though!) because an elderly person had wandered off.
