arlen specter seems like a good man

I don't even really know what his positions are/have been on certain things; but from watching him on CSPAN and such it seems like he actually goes with what he believes in (and isn't totally 'sold-out' for political purposes).

I might be wrong though. Do tell..

1. I'll Never Forget Clarence Thomas
By today's standards, Arlen's almost a "liberal" Repugnican, but that shows just how whacked out this party is. He used to be right of people like John Heinz and Robert Packwood, but now looks far different compared to a Sick Rectorum or James Imhoffe.

Sadly, Specter's one of the few reasonable heads in that corrupt party, and on a very short leash. I'll never forget his ramrodding Clarence Thomas through in 1991. He was the biggest pitbull in the attacks on Prof. Anita Hill and played a lot of parlimentary games to shut off debate and rush the nomination to the Repugnican Senate. It was a prelude to what is common place today.

2. He came up with the Magic Bullet theory for the Warren Commission.
Explaining away the unexplainable lies regarding the JFK assassination.

A good man?

Yeah, your impression is flawed.

6. Yeah, and JFK is still dead.
And Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, and Paul Wellstone.

Until they come back to lead us to the promised land, I hope you won't mind my holding a grudge against Specter and his ilk.

5. Sorry, you are wrong.
He has been my Senator for decades. He is the consummate political opportunist. He takes whatever position will better his career.

The "reasonable" moderate stance is nothing but a role. He is neither left nor right. He believes in nothing but his own career. He has no position and no principles other than staying in power.

"Never forget Clarence Thomas." Specter's greatest legacy to America will be 4 decades of Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court.

Thanks, Arlen, for your "integrity" in supporting that rabid POS.

8. Specter IS a republican,
and does follow the Republican line...but as repugs go, he's slightly to the left of John McCain...aurgealby the most liberal repug senator..but still a republican...the question was "is he a good man?" I think so...don't ask me that of Rick Santorum

9. well, if that was true, that he's only an opportunist & only wants power,
why did he have to fend off the far right's attacks on him in the last election? Why wouldn't he have seen which way the wind was blowing and declare his undying devotion to far right principles & beliefs? That way, bettering his career would have been assured, instead of his having to fight for the chairmanship of the judiciary committee.

He's been my senator for years too. The Clarence Thomas episode will always be a black mark on his record for me too. But I think he is a more complicated man than being a consummate political opportunist.

10. what was said is true of every member of the house or senate.
politics is power and self-serving...I did not vote for him, but it was a hard choice...if all repugs were like him we wouldn't need forms like d/u...we froget how far right the bushies have moved us

11. If all Republicans helped cover-up assassinations?
I'd want DU regardless.
