Two back to back articles by Paul Craig Roberts, great insights into
our situation today.

The first essay is titled "Job Arbitragers",Partnering Away American Prosperity. In this essay, Roberts quotes the CEO of an Indian Corporation, Infosys, that develops software and is a growing presence in the outsourcing business. He says that "American students are now reluctant to enter the technical professions because they see that they have to compete with Indian students of equivalent or superior skills who are willing to work for far less." This has given rise to the city of Bangalore that is India's equivalent of the Silicon Valley where almost all the heavy weights of the technology business are clustered-- Intel,HP,TI,Cisco,Microsoft and so on.The big attraction for them is the availability of 150,000 software engineers, a concentration not available anywhere else.Roberts correctly predicts that Engineering education in the US will be declining, with consequences we cannot even predict.

The second essay titled "American Rot" examines the state of our politics where even the opposition Democrats do not question the domestic or international policies of this administration including what Roberts correctly calls its Fantasy War in Iraq.

Read these articles. They are a powerful reminder what our newspapers ought to be doing and don't.

1. typo in 2nd link
You have a typo in your 2nd link (it's "counterpunch", not "conterpunch").

Here is the link w/o the typo:

------------

"Prosperity is just around the corner." -- Herbert Hoover
"The economy has turned a corner." -- GW Bush

Herbert Hoover = GW Bush

Neither man cared about the Depression their economic policies created.

4. he still sounds pretty right wing to me
He writes things like "bussing destroyed the schools, parents cannot discipline their kids without fear of social services, kids are turning to drugs and alcohol, immigrants are over-running our country, etc. None of that sounds very liberal or left-wing to me. He mentions libertarians as an alternative to Democrats and Republicans, but makes no mention of either socialists or greens.

I found him to be very hyperbolic and simplistic and stopped reading about halfway through. But I did like this quote:
"America's intellectual camps have become boosterish echo chambers that dismiss out of hand any contrary thought. Preaching to the choir while demonizing others is a path to intellectual impotence."

"Preaching to the choir while demonzing others". Maybe that is just the blog-world.
