First Lady gets Chirac lip service during trip

French President Jacques Chirac kisses hand of First Lady Laura Bush during visit in Paris yesterday.

French President Jacques Chirac laid it on thick for Laura Bush yesterday, greeting her and bidding her goodbye with gallant kisses on her hand.
The First Lady, in Paris hoping to warm frozen relations with renewed U.S. participation in a UN cultural program, paid a 40-minute social call on Chirac.

Chirac took Bush's hand and delivered a kiss as she exited her limo into the courtyard of the Elysee Palace - and again as she prepared to depart. Then he stood in the courtyard waving at her as she drove off.

As Chirac bent low over her hand the first time, Bush seemed slightly amused, smiling toward television cameras gathered to the side.

A matter of hospitality

Later, when reporters teased her about the kisses, she laughed. "I think that was just French hospitality," she said.

So veddy veddy French! And I would say--take a look at Laura's face. It is the first real face I have seen her put on at this funeral; all other faces were contived "sad" faces that emphasized her wrinkles--here she is glowing--and she seems entranced and delighted at this veddy veddy French tribute--which is quite romantic.

I think it safe to say, from this photo, that Laura is missing something in her life--being called a lump in the bed by an obviously insulting, crass husband who announces to the world in photo oped appearances that he spent "quality time" with Laura that very morning, probably drives her into fantasy and Chirac, the slick old codger, is playing it big. Koffi looks as if he is also amused at this little flirty gesture.
