We should reintroduce people to the constitution ("activist" judges)
Once again, the Republican Party is painting itself as the party of the common man, the little against the big, the people against the powerful. They are doing it on the issue of judges by talking about how judges are imposing their own values on the people.

The only reason the Republicans can get away with this is that people aren't familiar enough with the constitution to know that the judges the GOP hates are really siding with tradition and the founding values of America, over the political and ideological wishes of one party.

The solution is that when this issue comes up, tie the decisions of the judges to the constitution and tradition. Maybe even have a copy of it on you, like Senator Byrd is reputed to have, so you can point out that it doesn't say that judges are required to bow to congress when it passes laws that are unconstitutional.

1. Yeah
Either Joe Blow considers the Consitution an evil, secular document or is too busy watching NASCAR and getting drunk to read it.

2. The judicial branch is not a servant

of the legislative and executive branches. It is an equal.

It was always intended as such, and claiming otherwise is an insult to the Constitution. Not that the Republicans care about the Constitution...

"Activist" to the GOP means "they don't agree with us." Note how you never hear an outcry about the "activist" Congress or the "activist" President, despite there being many good arguments that both are exceeding their Constitutional authority.

3. People no longer learn civics in school.
They know very little about how the government is structured and why.

But, hey: they know American Idol.

4. I wonder if 50% of our natural born citizens could pass
the citizenship test required for immigrants.

That's sad, innit?
