Elitism - an article by ChoralScholar - feedback please
Sorry about the cross-post...

If you night-owls are in need of something to read, check out the latest article in my fairly new blog.

It is a new style of writing I have not tried before, and I would like to know if the article has clarity.

Thanks a bunch guys.

4. N.B. You'd get more readers in The Lounge. GDers are asleep by now.
Tea, Metamucil, and some Xanax...it's lala land.

2. Nice article. I read the whole thing.
I thought it was clear and engaging. The style is just fine. I have about zero patience for school based snobbery. It is a mirco version of any form of bigotry. E.G: I'm an X person. The X group makes more money than the Y group. Therefore, I, X person, am superior to all members of the Y group. You get my drift.

I've run into people from all sorts of universities - State U's from small states and the Ivy league. While you can make some generalizations, you can never claim superiority just because you are at a certain school. I mean afterall, look at Yale and Bush. Good luck finding a music program.

6. Thanks for the comment
you are correct... We tend to follow these little thought pathways that seem to make sense to us, but, no one else gets them.

7. I don't agree that Liberals are elites. When election time comes
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 03:26 AM by applegrove
around I see many professors lined up to help out. I don't she the rich elites there at all.

Now if you had said academics were potentially very competative - okay. That they got long summers. Okay. But now they are the elites?

This is Rove Speak!

Liberal Elites is just a meme to hide Bush's backers. You know the ones: "Some people call you the elites.. I call you my base" said Bush in White Tie & Tails. All he was missing was the top hat.

The Oil Elites, the embedded wealthy, corporate elites (like the guy who put up with Fox loses for years to get the pro Republican Network going), the people who funded the think tanks.. those are the elites we need to worry about.

They are the ones who actually are ruining this country.

They are the ones who made the deals with elites from other countries which now has the balance of payments in the USA in such disarray.. that if we do not stop taxing American Elites..they may take off to other places... and leave America.. in the hands... of Saudi Arabians.

That is why the crisis. That is why we have not lanced the boil and done everything possible to reduce dependence on Oil.

The elites are not in universities. Those professors live in local neighborhoods, they pay local taxes and they give back to the young by mentoring in mass numbers.

I disagree with your characterization as academics as elites. That is just more Bush Talk. It is the judges and the academics who now must be scapegoated.

We will have to make more posts about the true elites. We will have to get the MSM to grand 1% of its time on stories that affect the true Elites.

Breaking News: Rhododendron Blight

This Just In: To Fray or Not Fray your old Channel Suit.

Later in the Hour: $1 Million in tax breaks in the last 5 years for each family. How are they all doing? But most important - what did they do with that money? Did they buy American?

8. the article said:
"We, as liberals, are often accused of being 'elitist' to some degree. Maybe we are, maybe we aren't, but that's a topic for another day."

I didn't say we (liberals) were elitist. I don't think we are.

What I do know is that the music department I spoke of was elitist. I know because I was one of them.
