Date Set for Wash. Gubernatorial Challenge

WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) -- A judge Tuesday set a May 23 trial date for a GOP challenge to the election of Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire.

Judge John Bridges said the trial shouldn't take more than two weeks. The case is expected to be ultimately appealed to the state Supreme Court.

Republicans are challenging the election of Gregoire, who won by just 129 votes in a hand recount of 2.9 million ballots. The GOP candidate, Dino Rossi, won the first two counts.

Republicans contend election workers' errors, especially in the Democratic stronghold of King County, irrevocably tainted results by allowing illegal votes to be counted. Democrats say the hand recount was accurate.

Funny, isn't it, how when the Democrat wins, these challenges go to court. When the Republican does we're told to get over it. No, I guess it isn't that funny come to think of it.

2. What a double standard!!!
It's o.k. for them to bitch about this race, but when other parties question the presidential race, we just sore losers!!

Damn, they need to give it up!

4. They found a bunch of uncounted ballots last week
and so King County is going through the boxes again looking for any absentees that might have been missed.

There was a lot of howling that King County was producing very odd numbers at the time. The Reps have never quit on this.

The Ohio vote was not really that close, TruthisAll to the contrary. And since the presidential election is done by Electors rather than the voters, it is over when Congress certifies the vote in December.

This is a local Washington state matter, and I believe Washington's laws make it possible for the Reps to force a new election. Fat chance, of course. But they can dream.
