Rep. Tom DeLay is going to the Pope's funeral. Will he return???

Rep. DeLay was scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the gala Confronting the Judicial War on Faith conference scheduled for April 7-8. The sponsor, the "Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration" restoration????? must be disappointed that DeLay so hastily pulled out of his gig to travel abroad.

I hope House Speaker Hastert who is also going to the funeral and approved DeLay's trip will take the responsibility for returning him to US soil to face the charges brewing against him. I mean, pulling your passport won't be necessary, will it Tom?

1. God, I hope not.

If there's any justice, there will be a small, kind of inconsequential, but colorful and noisy pillar of fire that consumes him while he's in Rome.

39. He probably feels like that is happening anyway.
People with too much power and who use intimidation to maintain it get too certain of themselves. He has been feeling invincible for a long time now.

29. I always thought the pillar of salt thing was kind of cool.
For DeLay, though, God should make it garlic salt, just in case.

BTW - Who's paying for this trip?

If he's Baptist. I don't get it. It's understandable about the president's and Catholic senators and congressmen.

21. They are STEALING the Holy Father!
These Republican, right-wing nuts are stealing my pope; hoping to align themselves as the moral equals to John Paul II. They see millions of people standing in the streets of Rome and the billions expected to watch the funeral on TV and they want a piece of it.

All for the religious base of course for 2006. They screwed up with SS and Schavio so now they're trying to rank up some points for people to vote for them in 2006.

25. They Like The Catholic Church Just Fine Now...
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 12:01 AM by AndyTiedye
...that they have taken it over. The late Pope was the last holdout,
but he has been to ill to resist them for the past year or so.
We have all noticed the disappearance of any criticism of the war
or anything else the regime is doing. Throughout the election
campaign they were stumping for Boosh** openly and shamelessly.
Suddenly the death and destruction in Iraq were no longer an issue,
and all that matters is banning abortion and gay marriage -- just
in time for the Republicans to begin their big push on those issues.

Delay and the Pope-to-be will have a lot to talk about. They need
to coordinate the next phase of the Crusades, and ensure that they
will have the unqualified support of the Vatican this time. They
will have to admit that it is a holy war, and they will need the help
of the Catholic church to convince the parents of America that it is
their sacred duty to sacrifice their kids to the cause.

They will discuss next year's elections, and the role they expect the
Catholic church to play in them.

There will, of course, be doctrinal changes to bring Catholicism
into line with Dominionist theology.

in any manner. He doesn't speak for me and I am pissed to think that he will be going to this International affair. Perhaps its not very Christian of me, but IMHO he taints anything and everything he touches....

Don't use John Paul II for political gain, Mr. Delay...

No. He should not be there and certainly not have expenses paid. Is his wife and daughter going to be paid another $10,000 a piece for their expertise in the matter?

20. Jimmy Carter wont be included
The US delegation to Pope's funeral will be "limited". Too small to include Jimmy Carter.

http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/mld/ledgerenquirer/11317692.htm

"Former President Jimmy Carter will not attend the funeral of Pope John Paul II on behalf of the United States, despite telling the Bush administration he'd like to do so."

30. When I think about the devout pilgrims waiting for many hours....
...this is an intensely meaningful pilgrimage for Catholics.

Even y'all who claim you don't like our Giovanni Paolo -- mark my words, you're going to miss him....

People from every continent have made every effort to have "darshan" with the Holy Father, in spite of distance, infirmity, etc.

And Tom DELAY is going to get to be a VIP and rushed to the head of the line, to grandstand to advance his altogether unrelated political agenda?

Hear me God -- I don't ask for much, or anything, but if You think it's too vulgar and obvious to smite this creep, I pray that You will open the eyes of the currently blinded to his hypocrisy and evil.

37. Catholic Congresspeople
In order of their ceremonial rank

1) Nancy Pelosi
2) Rick Santorum
3) Kennedy

Any or all of these three (possibly with a repug congressman) would be a reasonable addition. People like Frist and Delay have no business going.
