Critique my anti-Bush SS piratization poster.
Some Republican simpleton in my neighborhood keeps putting up pro-bush posters. The latest says: "Support Bush's Social Security plan : It's Your Money"

Here is my response:

The same jackass put some up around the election that said: "Security - The Only Issue : Vote Bush". Fascism isn't coming to America, it's here.

5. I'd scrap the "idle rich investor class"
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 04:02 PM by tritsofme
line, because lots of people like to think that they are rich and of the investor class since they have a 401k.

Say something like "Republicans fight for big business, for Wall Street, not Main Street."

Gets the same message across without alienating some people.

6. I think the second point should be
Workers lose -- since you already mentioned retirees, this would broaden the message. Also "guaranteed" is misspelled.

14. Great visual - make it dominate the page...
...and use "Oppose the Bush Social Security Piratization Plan" as the main headline, so people understand the visual. Make your current headline ("Just Like There Were...") a subhead, along with the current subhead ("Don't Believe The Republicans'...). And have somebody proof your spelling and punctuation.

Otherwise, looks great. :)

19. now i know why they want people to say "personal" instead of "private"
because "private" sounds too much like "pirate" :spray:

16. Just a quick proofread...
... it's "guaranteed," and in the third line, should be "Republicans'"

You can also drop the comma after "investor class"

Otherwise, looks good--hammers the word "piratization" nicely.

Cheers.

18. Check spelling and grammar.
Nice job!

Fix:

Guarenteed to "Guaranteed"
Wall street to "Wall Street"

Also, I would change:

"Republicans fight for big business."
to
"Republicans pander to big business."

"Fighting" for something sounds positive.

Also, how about italicising the words "piratize"
and "piratization" for emphasis.

Just for kicks, mail one to the lug in a nice
holiday looking envelope... :)

-K

20. Couple points.....
You asked for critiques, so please don't take this personally...lol

1. GUARANTEE is spelled incorrectly, no e after the r. Maybe not a major point, but I picked it up right away.

2. It is my opinion, and maybe only mine, that you might be better served by leaving out the last portion about the Right-wing Zealots. You know it's true, I know it's true... but you're trying to reach people who are most likely uninformed about the real state of things and once they perceive something is a slam on the Republicans they might miss the message.

3. Last suggestion: I would focus more on BUSH than the Republicans (mostly for the same reason in #2). I find that I have more luck at discussing politics with people if I point out to them that I'm against Bush, not the entire Republican party (okay, that's a lie.. I hate them all), but I go on to point out that Bush is NOT a Republican, he stands for things that are not historically Republican. That tends to get them thinking.

21. Maybe I can say : "Politicians?"
Instead of zealots....or even the right wing? put the onus on it being politicians selling out retirees for political gain?

I understand your point and i agree...but i think its important to point out that Republicans have a vendetta againsts Social Security.

A theory I have is that the left needs to position on our issues in a manner that smears the republicans because they advocate that position. i think thats what they do with us.

25. I agree.... just thinking of the intended audience...
...and the format through which you're trying to educate them. Hell, most of the U.S. still thinks WMD were found in Iraq. Are these people likely to understand the nuances of Republicans historically hating S.S.? People seem to basically care about themselves and their money. If they think something will actually affect THEIR money, it's important.

I also like the idea of using "politicians". Everyone hates politicians....lol

22. On your point 3...
While I take your point about not being perceived as a "Republicon hater," I WOULDN'T focus on Bush**. We can reasonably expect him to be gone within the next four years. I would extend my focus to the Radical Right Wing contingent that has infiltrated the Republicon Party, the extremists in our government who are anything but "conservative."

My 2 cents.

NGU.

26. I would agree, if......
...this was going to be discussed in a speech, or a longer pamphlet or newsletter. You have a one page flyer that you want to use to grab the attention of the uninformed or misinformed. Going into too much detail, or using keywords that turn people off doesn't accomplish that. Once again, MHO.

23. Aiming at the under-40 crowd
The younger people are the ones giving Bush the most support right now, so you might make a stronger pitch at them.

First line, "Retirees lose": fine.
Second line, "Retirees lose": as someone else suggested, make it "Workers lose".
Third line, "Taxpayers lose": make it "Young people lose", and change the text. I think $5 trillion is a high estimate and I'd go with a more defensible but still staggering figure: "$2 trillion in new federal debt, with interest and principal to be paid off over decades." My hope is that the 20- and 30-somethings will be less enthusiastic when they focus on the question of who's going to be saddled with repaying that debt.

Also, in the tagline, I'd be more optimistic. Instead of "Oppose" the Bush plan, make it a call to "Stop" the Bush plan.
