What will happen when His Holiness the Dali Lama....
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 11:11 AM by liberalitch
moves on to his next life?
He is nearing 70 (still young, but no spring chicken) and is believed to be in excellent health.
But I suspect that because he is not Christian his contributions to the human family will be downplayed if not downright ignored (at least by this theocratic administration).

They will ignore the fact that he has been instrumental in promoting physical, spiritual and community health globally and the fact that his life is a testiment as to why instead of dealing with china, her feet should be held to the fire in the areas of human and religious rights.

See here he is:

4. At that time
all intelligent people of good will shall mourn the loss of a great human being. The measure of his greatest is not related to the reaction of either the media or people ignorant of his goodness. To be concerned about either the media or the right-wing republican reaction would be to miss the message.

6. Well, JPII was white but hardly Anglo-Saxon.
And none of those Italians would really be considered Anglo-Saxon, either.

The last English pope was Nicholas Breakspear, who gave Henry II permission to invade Ireland, to save their souls. However, he's usually considered Anglo-Norman, rather than Anglo Saxon....

5. Excellent point.

Personally, I will mourn his death because he is a great man and an extraordinary human being. The loss of the Dali Lama will be a loss for all humanity.

But you know you are 100% right. The theocracy over here couldn't care less. Whe something happens to him, they will make all kinds of jokes about who the next Dali Lama will be, a ton of Buddist cracks. The ignorance will be astounding.

I'm Catholic. I'm not as familiar with the Buddist faith and traditions. Looks like I will have to self-educate beforehand so I will not be confused by the stupidity that will surely sprout forth from the current wave of American idiot media repoters we're maligned with now.

If anyone reads this who is Buddist, tell us what you know about the faiths and raditions when the Dali Lama passes.

EDITED for spelling. While I may have (an occassional) good thought to share with you all, the good Lord didn't see fit to bless me with the abilities to type and spell.

8.  I just watched a dvd this arvo :Martin Scorsese's "Kundun,"
what a beautiful film.
I love the Dali Lama. I was in a hotel lobby in Sydney a few years ago when he arrived and shook hands with a few people as he walked in, including mine..his touch was really like electricity and I'm not normally a 'fan' type person but many people said the same.

When he passes I guess most Buddhists really will be celebrating that he's moved on but I can't imagine what the media will portray him as ..but who cares what the puke media says these days.
