What do you miss most about the Clinton years?
I miss the economic freedom that my family and I had.

I miss the feeling of safety and security, in more ways than one.

I miss going to bed and not worrying about what bullshit I would wake up to the next day.

I miss seeing Clinton on an almost daily basis.

I never thought it would be this bad.

10. Being able to live in love instead of fear.
I know we create our own reality on a lcoal level, and I was never so consumed with the local level as I am with the federal level, the global level, of what tomorrow will bring.

I have no optimism, no real hope. I can't shake it, this is NOT like me and I feel utterly at the mercy of some whack job in DC.

My curse is my desire to know everything about everything, and the more I know, the more dire things look.

I can't find any good news. You hear something, get a glimmer of hope, only to see that thing that should have had the nation screaming in protest is crushed under foot by the media. Can ANYONE gove me some good news?

Things were better.
I remember that I took the good economy, and all the other positive changes, for granted.

I took the Clinton presidency for granted. I thought he should have been more progressive, but at the time, I didn't realize that he was so in-tune with Americans, in general. So moderate. He wasn't perfect, but he WAS a hard worker. Shrub is NOT a hard worker. Shrub has LOUSY work ethic.

37. LOL! what about the children?!
"oral sex" became a household phrase!
People were forced to think about oral sex more frequently than before, due to being reminded constantly. :9

I wonder if any studies were done to find out whether oral sex acts occurred more frequently among the general populace, during the Lewinsky scandal. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a spike in oral sex acts at that time in history!

45. I don't have children, but if I did, I would much rather
talk to them about oral sex than worry about them being drafted into endless wars, or worry about paying for their health insurance, or worry about what the economy will be like when they grow up.

When Clinton was in office, I was learning about the stock market. Now, I don't want to go near the stock market pages.

When Clinton was in office, I was a non-exempt with paid overtime. Now I'm a non-exempt with more overtime hours but no more overtime pay.

And if I'm watching a TV someplace where I don't control the remote, I have to leave the room whenever Assface appears. Just the sound of his voice makes me want to hurl. :puke: That was never a problem with Big Dog.

I miss living in a sane, safe world. Mostly sane world. I feel so completely like a fish out of water or an alien on a foreign planet, or perhaps like a character from some dull novel who's stuck in a world that doesn't make sense to her.

Or something.

The Clinton years seem SO far away, in the far, far distant past that they just don't seem to matter any more. Other than as a pleasant memory, that is. But that too almost seems surreal by this time. (DID it really happen that way??)

The innovative businesses that appeared.

And

that no matter what happened, things could and would get better. I haven't had that feeling since Bush took office.

There was also a comforting feeling with Clinton. Bush behaves like some fool who is scared to death of his own citizens and the rest of the world. He blunders through the day making an ass of himself. Clinton was confident, Bush is an embarassment.

53. Miss seeing happy, smiling people...
now we see scared, angry, crazy people.

I miss feeling secure and independent, trusting that I could go to bed and the world would still be here upon my awakening. I could count on Bill Clinton being up all night, taking care of any crisis we faced as a country. He could also smile while taking a proverbial Repug beating. He didn't rule with fear - and he could have, considering event's that happened. He chose to handle most issues without our really knowing. I thank him for that, his smiles, while treating us with respect as a people. The best thing about having Bill Clinton - the rest of the world loved him as much as we did - and still do.

Bush is ever worse than I thought. He has surpassed even my expectations, or lack thereof. He's distant, remote and cold - I can't think of one good point he has. IMO, he makes this country feel like an abused child.

56. Hope
There was something on tv about Hope, Arkansas and Clinton. I remember the end of the 80's and that horrid, wretched feeling of hopelessness I felt. And, of course, Bush Part I said my generation didn't matter because we were all slackers. I remember hearing "Don't Stop" when I was watching Clinton. That song had the most signifigance when associated with Clinton and the Clinton years. So between being able to have hope once again, like I did during the Clinton years, and what that song represented to me back then, I believe that was what I would have to say I miss MOST. The others you mentioned are definitely on my list as well. Plus, I felt like the country was safer back then, which is why my head hits the roof when anyone claims the repugs are better at national security than dems/progressives. We WERE safer under Clinton from outside threats. Right wing wacko groups were the biggest threat then. If you keep up with hate group activity, it's obvious which side is the most law abiding. That would be ours.
