Here we go: "Some See Link in Deaths of Pope, Schiavo"
In Florida, where the Schiavo battle played out, the Rev. Bill Swengros said Terri's parents saw a link in the two deaths. "They can't help but notice the parallels between the Holy Father's death and Terri's death, like bookends. The Holy Father: going through a Passion, having a feeding tube, having people knowing that he's physically disabled, wondering how Parkinson's (disease) would affect his judgment," said Swengros, a priest at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Gulfport, which will host a service for Schiavo on Tuesday.

"Perhaps one of the reasons why God blessed us with Terri is the lesson she's taught us in her passing: that every life has dignity," he said.

At St. Michael Church in Worthington, Ohio, 53-year-old Nancy Benedetti agreed — and she also drew a connection between the papal and Schiavo deaths. "A lot of people say the correlation of it happening within a few days just goes to prove how the sanctity of life is very important," she said.

"The pope would have said to the judges (in the Schiavo case) 'You didn't give her life and you can't take her life,'" said 47-year-old Christopher Ziemianowicz, in New York City's Polish neighborhood of Greenpoint.

3. There is a link! God is sending us an important message!
The link is:

The mainstream media machine will grasp at any heart rendering though long run irrelevant event in order to pander to (what the media thinks is) the religious sensibilities of the American people.

God wants us to realize this and start thinking for ourselves.

4. The coincidence is telling. No dignity vs. dignity. As to the coincidence.
well it turns out 50 famous people a year die. Johnny Cochran too died in this time period. If fifty famous people die a year then that works out to be about one a week.

Just because our heads have been filled with death and dying.. that is the memes that are on the tops of our heads.. and so the next person to die becomes all mixed up in our heads.

People die.

7. I hate to get into this, but from what I have seen her parents are sleazy
They went against her wishes and kept her on life support for fifteen years, they let the GOP turn her tragic story into a cause and her life into a public matter, and they are even against her wishes to be cremated.

And now they are drawing comparisons between her and the Pope. But notice that they keep mentioning themselves? ("God gave Terri to us to teach us", etc.)

I really just don't think they respected their daughter at all.

20. Same here
Somehow they find SOMEWAY to make it about THEM and to bash Mr. Schavio. What disgusting people. They'll keep whoring it up for a while I guarntee. I wouldn't be surprised if after everything is over with the Pope that they start going on rightwing shows.

8. Yes that is true
Many prayers were issued for them to remain...and, well?

Apparently *God* felt that their time was up--you would think they would get a clue.

12. Clues? They have none. It isn't about "God" andTerri. It is
about themselves. After they utter those remarks linking the two they pat themselves on the back and smugly let others know they are more Christian than anyone else. This is why I feel Christianity is getting a bad reputation when this happens.

10. Frank Perdue and Bobby Short died this week, too
Where do their deaths fit into their little scenario?

Methinks they're reading WAY too much into this.

11. Yes, every life has dignity,
even though the Schindlers tried like hell to take that away from Terri.

However, Terri would have died a looooong time ago, if not for her control-freak parents. Her death has no bearing on the Pope's death.

I'm not one to advocate violence, but someone needs to give the Schindlers a good bitchslapping. :grr:

14. Agree 110%
In the beginning, I was willing to entertain the Schindlers' viewpoints. After a while, though, I got the feeling I was being played.

And that's when they lost me.

16. Oh sure...the "sanctity of life"-
That's why Schiavo is in hiding! Shameless hypocrites! Although I disagreed with many of the Pope's teachings, he lived what he spoke. These people are nothing but fanatics. There is no reasoning with them. Culture of Life, my ass!

17. Correlations, my ass.
They'd have found a correlation if they died a week apart, but both on Fridays.

People seek patterns where none exist.

They also are willing to bend totally unrelated facts to fit the conclusion they've already drawn.

No Film At 11.

18. if there is anything the pope's death will highlight is how UNdignified
Terry Shiavo's life turned out--thanks to her parents.

It is undignified to be forced to live 15 yrs without any awareness of it. What a hell that is--caught between here and there and nowhere.
