This Pope visited at least 130 countries
in his search for commonality and peace. He simply announced he was coming and he was allowed to come. No one turned him down. I think of the honor many bestowed upon him, including Castro. He met with Arafat and was honored.

By contrast, we have Bush who arranges to speak only with Americans who agree with his radical policies. He also hides from the public in foreign countries and depends on his security to separate him from the foreign public. His cowboy theme of "bring them on" has gone over like a lead balloon.

The Pope is mourned by all.

Do you have a problem with honoring either?

11. Do you honor his positions on birth control and HIV/AIDS?.........
Do you realize that by taking those positions he has condemned millions of people to death? What kind of life will be the lot of all of those unwanted babies?

Yes, I do have a MAJOR problem honoring someone like that.

15. Those aren't exactly *his* positions.
Those are the positions of the Catholic Church. For him to deny them would have been quite difficult, both considering politics and theology. The denial of birth control has deep roots in RC theology, and to change all that around would be *very* difficult.

13. Not everyone mourns this pope
Many Gays do not.

Many Catholics do not, since he undid many reforms his predecessors put in place.

16. It's a shame. I hope she comes back!
Her innocent wide-eyed awe at the amazing wonderfullness of all the Pope did and how all loved him so much reminded me of a King Missile song I hadn't listened to for ages. This is for Erica...

Jesus was way cool
Everybody liked Jesus
Everybody wanted to hang out with him
Anything he wanted to do, he did
He turned water into wine
And if he wanted to
He could have turned wheat into marijuana
Or sugar into cocaine
Or vitamin pills into amphetamines

He walked on the water
And swam on the land
He would tell these stories
And people would listen
He was really cool

If you were blind or lame
You just went to Jesus
And he would put his hands on you
And you would be healed
That's so cool

He could've played guitar better than Hendrix
He could've told the future
He could've baked the most delicious cake in the world
He could've scored more goals than Wayne Gretzky
He could've danced better than Barishnikov
Jesus could have been funnier than any comedian you can think of
Jesus was way cool

He told people to eat his body and drink his blood
That's so cool
Jesus was so cool
But then some people got jealous of how cool he was
So they killed him
But then he rose from the dead
He rose from the dead, danced around
Then went up to heaven
I mean, that's so cool
Jesus was way cool

No wonder there are so many Christians

17. The pope is beloved by 1.6 billion Catholics
This is really strange. I defend the Pope for his good points, including downing the Iraqi war and capital punishment, and I'm still vilified. I am a proud liberal but I do tolerate and respect others beliefs. That's wrong? Excuse me?

20. I was raised Catholic
I happen to be related to a lot of Catholics who are not mourning this pope due to his conservative views regarding women and the priesthood, priests not being able to marry and gays not being allowed in the church.

I left the church because of this conservatism.

Yes, he was a strong advocate for peace, and certain human rights (but not all human rights). But I would venture to say that not ALL 1.6 billion Catholics are mourning.

22. You are not being villified for your opinion
You are being shown flaws in your logic. Not ALL people are mourning him, as you asserted in your OP. Not even all Catholics are mourning him, which is another flaw in your logic.

And you choose to honor diversity by honoring a man who abhors it?

You're funny.

And the church does not rule out the death penalty. I think you don't know the church's position as well as you claim to.
