What was the major news story that fell under the rug because of the pope
and Terri schivo dying?
what did the "media" just sweep under the rug that most people would have missed this weekend?

1. The Attack on Abu Gharaib...hardly a word about it....
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 08:22 PM by Pachamama
In fact, when I looked at today's paper, I had to dig to page 10 after pages and pages of coverage on the Pope to find a story about it, and even then, it was a short 1/4 page story from the AP...in fact, there was even a story of Terri Schiavo being cremated on the page before it...

3. The insurgents attacking Abu Ghraib...
the death of about 20 Americans in this assault was pretty newsworthy, but only got a blurb.

Congratulations on your upcoming Motherhood!

5. the General who lied about the torture in Abu Ghraib
The ACLU says the documents reveal that the abuse of prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere was the result of an organised and co-ordinated plan for dealing with prisoners captured during the so-called war on terror that originates at the highest levels of the chain of command. It says that far from being isolated incident, the shocking abuse at Abu Ghraib that was revealed last year was part of a pattern. "We think that the techniques authorised by Gen Sanchez were certainly responsible for putting into play the sort of abuses that we saw at Abu Ghraib," Amirit Singh, an ACLU lawyer, told The Independent on Sunday. "And it does not just stop with Sanchez. It goes to Rumsfeld, who wrote memos authorising these sorts of techniques at Guantanamo Bay."

12. Well...
I complained about the press' coverage of the Pope's death and lack of coverage on this website (DU) and was informed that the Pope's death was more important.

Go figure.
