"Body of Soldier's Widow is Found" (Right here in my home state :^( )
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 03:25 PM by GreenPartyVoter
WESTBROOK, Maine - Lavinia Gelineau was found dead in her home Friday, a year after she endured the bitter and overwhelming loss of her husband, Spc. Chris Gelineau, a Maine National Guardsman killed in Iraq.

Chris & Lavinia Gelineau
Gelineau's body was discovered at her new home in Westbrook along with that of her estranged father, Nicolae Onitiu, 51, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. McCausland said Onitiu arrived Wednesday from Romania.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide, but provided few details Friday night. They said they do not believe anybody else was involved.

Gelineau's mother lived with her, but McCausland said Iuliana Onitiu had gone to Vermont to the home of Gelineau's father-in-law before Nicolae Onitiu's arrival.

3. Her father killed her then himself
The father of 25-year-old Lavinia Gelineau — the widow of a Maine National Guardsman killed in Iraq — brutally beat her, then strangled her with a clothesline in the basement of her Westbrook home, authorities said Saturday.

The father, Nicolae Onitiu, 51, who was visiting from Romania, then smoked a cigarette and hanged himself from a floor joist in the basement, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

"This is a horrific case of domestic violence," McCausland said.

The bodies were discovered Friday morning at Gelineau's new green colonial home on Central Street. She lived there with her mother, Iuliana Onitiu, who had left the home last week to avoid contact with her estranged husband, McCausland said. He said there was a history of violence by Nicolae Onitiu against his wife, and the couple had separated.
