Reports transmitted by Arabic satellite television channel Al-Jazeera completely distort the true state of affairs in the Chechen Republic, keeping mum about the consistent efforts by federal and local authorities to rehabilitate the economy and normalize sociopolitical life, Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement.
Things are presented in such a way as if the overwhelming majority of the Chechens did not choose peace, stability and a quiet, steady development of the Chechen Republic within the Russian Federation, the statement says.
It seems certain circles abroad do not like the successful development of Russian-Arab relations, the growth of the prestige and authority of Russia in the Arab Muslim world. That is why, as in the case of Al-Jazzera, obviously made-to-order reports are ment to create a wrong impression of Russian policies, including that in Chechnya.
But the Russian foreign ministry is convinced that Al-Jazzera’s reports will not poison the atmosphere of Russia’s ties with the Arab countries. “These traditionally friendly and mutually beneficial ties are assuming an ever more intensified and ramified character, which we are convinced meets the long-term interests of both Russia and the Arab states,” the document says.
