1. Alrighty, then. Do we believe God gave us "free will" or not?
Did the Pope support the concept of a free-living-will?

2. don't get the irony
The Pope is very ill, and not as strong as he would like to be, but he is not brain-dead nor is he necessarily terminally ill. People can last a long time and have quality of life with Parkinson's, and certainly people with good medical support recover every day from the flu and pneumonia.

I am not aware of anyone ever re-growing a cerebral cortex, with or without feeding tube.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
--John Mitchell, US Attorney General 1969-72

10. Irony is that feeding tube being with held back creating a firestorm
of protests from "Christian Right Wing Fundies" at the same time the Pope (close to if not #1 leader in Christian World) is having to have one inserted because of trouble swallowing.

12. You're right--there's no connection between the two cases.
But whenever the word "pope" appears here, it inspires something much like Orwell's "Two Minutes Hate," except that it lasts a hell of a lot longer than two minutes. Mere facts will not stop those who get their jollies by hating on the pope.

18. I get nauseous on anyone getting "jollies by hating".
Frankly, the dialog of hatred should be immediately smothered IMHO.

I am sick of it. I am sick of the "hate".

24. Indeed
It gives me the cold shivers.

And makes my belly button hurt, oddly enough. Must be empathy pain.

None of this is funny

3. Did they do that? I heard it was being considered this afternoon.
There was also another post here on DU that someone said the Pope was a very good case in favor of a feeding tube. He's alert, his mind is working well, and he's able to function well in the tasks he needs to do.

Such a different situation than the TS case.

17. How Do You Know The Man's Able To Function?
This man looks very ill to me and is in the final stages of a lingering passing. I wish him peace and the least discomfort possible.

While he's still cognizant, I can't see how he's truly capable of doing the "tasks he needs to do". If there was some sort of economic or political crisis, would this man be able to deal with it? I am pained every time I see him brought out these days as I've seen, firsthand, the slow degeneration Parkisons brings on and the slow loss of all functions so that you eventually become a prisoner in your own body. While his mind may be sharp...his ability to function in an authoritative figure is over.

Right now's he's symbolic and in many ways should be looked at in the same was as Mrs. Schiavo....that their suffering is brief.

8. Yeah, from all I've read about the Pope lately,
he's in great shape, except he can't walk, can't talk, can't breathe, and can't eat.

Other than that, he's just fine.

Don't all those "symptoms" suggest God's calling him home?

Heathen pretenders.................

7. Isn't it Ironic
when I was growing up my Father told me that the Brain was the most important organ of the body. He died last year of a Brain Anyurism. His brain killed him. Terri Shiavo collapsed because of Bulimia, purged her food, will die because her feeding tube is removed. Pope just commented last week on TS's feeding tube, and has a feeding tube. Hmmmmm. I don't know, but it seems to me, you get what you want.

9. Are you sure?
I just finished reading in LBN that they are considering inserting a tube.

Do you have a link to something that says they have inserted it?

11. Yeah, I thought he was "peacefully resigning himself
to the will of the Lord." What makes anybody think that God approves of the tube?

19. OH STOP IT! Do NOT even Think such a thing!
It's bad enough that we have a Dry Drunk, who thinks he's President, I couldn't face a world with a Comatose Pope, lingering on for years.

We have to stay positive that he WILL Died Soon.

Full disclosure: I'm an X-Catholic
